Was curious if any guides would come out on our boat with us to show us good places and techniques to use on our pontoon. We just moved to Texas from Alaska and have gotten ourselves a boat on the lake. We only know how to fish for salmon and are having a hard time catching anything on the lake except small sun fish off the dock. We are very open on availability through out the week as we work for ourselves. If you can recommend someone that would be great. Saw many guides in google search, but all said use of guides boat. Not sure if its maybe an insurance issue? Anyway, I see all these posts about catching fish so I know they are out there, I see them on the fish finder! But alas I can't seem to get them in the boat, so I'm ready to pay to play!
Regards

Best bet right now is cruise the lake looking for birds feeding on shad. Giant sandbass are chasing them to the top. You can throw anything, but the best bet is a single hook bait like a spinnerbait so you can unhook quickly. Don't be afraid to go up in the timber on the east side. You'll find big schools. With a depth finder and a GPS, you can find the Corps brushpiles that are marked on about every map. Use two anchors, front and back, to anchor up. Drop minnows into the brush and catch crappie. Use the anchor ropes to move around on the pile till you find them. Also crappie will start ganging up around scattered trees in 15 to 30 feet of water. This is trial and error to find the right trees. Again, minnows are the ticket.
Don't know much about catfishing, but Ray Roberts is supposed to be one of the best. All I know about catfish is they'll eat anything that stinks. And they're fixing to be spawning, big time.

If you'll wait a week you can probably learn something being a spectator as 30 of the best in the country descend on that little pond to whack-em!

I know Dannie Golden of Get-Bit Guide Service will go out in a client's boat. But... he is booked solid through this month and probably into the next as well. I'd still give him a call. 817-228-5999

-1 on Jim Walling.
Hired him to help me learn the lake for champs in 2014. We took my boat and my gas with no rate change. He told me an area was clear and i tried to jump on plane only to smoke a 4' thick stump right in the middle of his "clearing". Cracked the gears in my lower unit. Also, I told him about the fish we were on before the tourney and guess who was on our spots guiding 3 women come tournament day... They caught 3 fish that were at least 3 lbs a piece. When he drove off, he said... "oh hey! Didnt recognize you!"... yeah, you didnt recognize my bight blue Champion 206 and the 6'7" guy standing in the front. On top of all the guide stuff, we caught one 2-lb fish a piece during out several hundred dollar trip.
