I have tried sweet corn at Toledo Bend for a month now with out a bite. I even tried chumming with cream corn and oatmeal, then used that for pack bait around the sinker. I use #6 hooks and fish a slack line too. (tried tight line also). I'm not sure what else to try. I think they are there because I hear them jumping. They make huge splashes like a man doing a cannon ball. Just no bites. Do they bite at night? That is when I fish.

I hammer catfish, bass, and crappie, but I thought that since I had been hearing them jump I would give them a try. I assume it could be something else jumping, but I don't know what else would be acting like that. They will jump 10 feet from where I am and make a giant splash. Granted it is at night. One jumped right up against where I was then jumped again 30 feet out, then continued jumping every 20-30 feet off into the distance. I have had 25 pound catfish on top and they never made that size of splash. What else could it be?

The splashes you're seeing can be either carp or buffalo, and there's some giants in Toledo! They can be pretty tricky out there, they'll bite at night but it can take a long time of them splashing like that over your bait and around you before they finally get their heads down to eat.

I've caught fresh water drum, catfish, gar, bass and even bowfin there. What do buffalo bite on?

Buffs will eat the same thing as carp.

Could be gar making those loud splashes. I have found once they are feeding it deos not really matter what line or leader you use. If the carp are hungry and in the area they will take the bait usually. I have tried flourocarbon, mono, and braid and all worked equally well. Were you getting any bites or line activity? Also what is the water clarity like?

Stained water. I had 30lb braid green and 17lb mono clear. At one point I was using a black wire leader. I was getting small catfish to bite.
