Used to like fishing a black buzz bait and a black Jitterbug at night. Caught some good fish that way. Scare the pants off you when they hit.

Please use some type of running lights if you are on a kayak at night, it's not only the law but it just makes sense

A few weeks ago I saw 2 and came within 50 feet of one of them an hour after dark on Ray Hubbard. Neither kayaker had any type of lights.

I would say your chances of surviving being ran over in a yak are not good.

ROFL - When I describe it to people who haven't fished at night yet, I say its like an adult version of a Jack-n-the-box. Lol You are turning your reel and never know when that explosion is going to happen lol

Somme good advice above. When we fish the Working Man's on Alan Henry, MANY fish are caught in the dark with a black buzzbait, a popper or a walking bait. It is EXCITING TO HEAR THE explosion and then waiting until you feel fish the before setting the hook. Sometimes, nothing happens, sometimes, Everything happens. Most of us do not use any extra lights, except what is required by law. Some do have a spotlight, but only use it to retie or look for something in the boat. Eye protection is a MUST at night, keep yourself safe and don't set the hook until you feel the fish, best advice I can give. Black baits work better at night, I guess because they throw a shadow more bulky than translucent baits, but that is just my guess. Dunno. But WOW, what a thrill, catching fish at night is. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck

Thank you one and all for the 411. Definitely going to give this a try in the month of May.

Looks fun, a little too worried about moccasins sneaking up on me.

20 years ago we averaged 40 fish a night on black spinnerbaits at Fork. We would always mix in a black buzzbait and 10" worm with a bead and metal clacker between the weight and worm. These days we average 10-20 but still catch good quality fish. The new moon is best.

Great video!

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Thanks and great input. The night still has its patterns too. You can have wild 30+ days or 10 fish nights. I really like when the moon rise or set coincides with the sunset and even better if on the eve of a front. With moonlight, I love a large chartreuse gulp on a Norton jig with a spinner blade. (this is good for windy nights too...I can work it low just above bottom). For top water, especially when its calm or in protected areas...I like a spro mouse worked medium to slow or a live target mouse that I walk the dog with.

I used black until I heard a pro say that if someone could show him bait fish that change color at night, he would change to black. Made sense and I started throwing my normal colors and found that they catch just as many fish. Night is my favorite time to fish

I truly love night fishing.

In the last 30 years, I've been bass fishing in my boat about a thousand times. EVERY last one of those times my trailer was the last to leave the parking lot. I find the bite often gets hot right after most anglers abandon the lake in pursuit of a belly full of poor-quality fast food.

Works for me.
