Hey team, I'm taking some out of towners fishing next weekend. Looking to explore somewhere beyond Lew/Roberts. Any suggestions for a fun easy grass lake within a few hours of Dallas? The kind of place you can catch two pounders on your first trip without knowing every rock and submerged lunchbox in the lake. Thinking maybe upper end of Palestine?

Thanks guys. Athens would be great but this will be a weekend so I would think pretty crowded. Are Crockett and Welsh grass lakes? Any pads? Would like to throw Kermit around a lil bit.

I haven't been there in a few years but Bob Sandlin used to have plenty of grass and pads. You got Cypress, Sandlin, and Monticello all right there. And Welch isn't far from there either. You could find a nice hotel in Mt. Vernon or Mt. Pleasant.
If it ain't yours don't mess with it! Need a friendly place to talk hunting? www.talkhunting.com

Has anyone been to Monticello recently? I was there about a month ago and there was not a blade of grass or lily pads in Smith. Almost like the poisoned it.
I was out on Sandlin several weeks ago but did not find any grass yet. I did not go up Monticello Cove though.
Welsh is full of grass. Did not see any lily pads though unless they were way up north.
