I have a small clear water 1 1/2 acre pond on my property here in Edom. I bought the place 3 years ago and at that time, the pond had a few black bass, one big catfish, and a nice population of sunfish. I started feeding them regularly, and the sunfish started putting on some weight. Lately, though, they have lost enthusiasm for the floating feed I put out. Thinking they might like a little meat, I started mixing a can of old fashioned cat food in with their dry food. The result was amazing. They are now eating very aggressively. I expect they will grow very nicely this summer. I have not harvested any to date, but I think I will keep a few for the frying pan this year.

The only kind I remember for sure is bream. I think maybe some red ear, but it's been a long time since I caught some and looked them up. I will do that again soon and report back.

jfe,
There is that bluegill fishing lake with cabins for rent over off of Hwy 19 near Eustace and I have read they have both numbers and size in there.
It might be interesting for you to find out if they are supplementally feeding their panfish.
I would think you'd need to do some culling to manage their size up. Since small ponds don't support shad populations, panfish become the primary food source for your bass. I suppose you'll see some nice sized bass over time . . . eating bluegills.

Keep feeding those Gills along with some good pond management and you will have one super nice place to fish. Pond fishing is hard to beat.

Be careful with pellets and/or supplements Late Spring through Fall. Does bad things to your o2.
