I love fishing different bodies of water so the last few days have been a blast! I had a birthday party for my nephew down in my home town Saturday so I thought I’d deckhand for my brother on Conroe Saturday morning. He’s been on a great hybrid bite down there for a while now. We struggled to find fish early due to post frontal conditions I guess, but eventually found the fish on a windy point holding right against the drop at 26 feet. All fish were caught on slabs. It was just a wait it out and catch a few every 10 minutes kind of bite. Sunday I had a guide trip on Tawakoni with Rick (gas passer) and friends. We almost rescheduled due to the wind predictions but decided to go anyways. For about three hours we thought we made the wrong decision as our fish count was a big fat ZERO. Some of the Texoma guys were catching a few fish on bait but it was slow going for us on lures. We tried to fish the calm side of the lake to no avail knowing the price we’d have to pay to get on fish. I told the guys we needed to either go big or go home so we strapped up and headed to the windy side of the lake. Good ole Tawak was ROLLING but we had hybrids on our minds. As we reached the edge of the timber we could see white water explosions over the tops of the swells and it was GAME ON for about an hour with quadruple hookups under working birds. Our drift started at the timber edge in 45ft and they slowly pushed the school of baitfish all the way to the bank. We had it to ourselves for 30 min until one other boat had the same idea. Tawakoni such an exceptional lake and a blast to fish! Monday I had to go back to my real job but my dad and uncle decided to make a random trip up to Lake Palestine because of the good crappie bite we’ve been on. They left Livingston at 4 in the morning and showed up at daylight with a few rods, jigs, and a great scouting report. The crappie are loaded on the banks right now and its easy limits on the edges of the grass in about a foot and a half of water. I headed over after work and we finished out our 100 fish limit! The fishing is busting loose on all the area lakes right now and it’s a great time to get the family out on the water! I guide mostly on the weekends primarily on Cedar Creek but will hit any lake within an hour of Athens. There are a number of great guide services on every lake but I’m not a bad option in a pinch, especially if its last minute and your favorite local guides are booked up. I’m not on the lake every day but sometimes it actually works out better for people who want to learn how to locate fish and establish patterns on new water.

Great words: " I’m not on the lake every day but sometimes it actually works out better for people who want to learn how to locate fish and establish patterns on new water."

This was a great read and makes you realize that good search tactics will produce on any lake. Nice fish.

Bites change a little from lake to lake but this time of year fish can be caught pretty well on just about any Texas lake. Let's take the cast net back to squaw creek and really show off ED!

Hey ChrisR, just hooked up with an old high school buddy on Conroe for a mini high school reunion in May. We plan to do a learn and catch trip for Conroe since he lives on the lake and got a boat. Will contact ya soon once we finalize the date in May.
