Tried it a couple of times with mixed results. Anyone use carp for setlines, jugs, trotlines with any luck using carp? Cut carp to be specific. I have used small carp for flatheads and they seem to work well. Just haven't used cut carp much at all. Wanted to know if it was worth the effort to use for catfish. Any suggestions would be great!

Yes, it is. Beat the heck out of it with a stick as soon as you catch it. I scale mine and leave the skin on and then fillet it and cut into whatever size chunks I want at the time. I have caught many blues with it.

Scale it, filet it, cube it. Bigger chunks equal bigger cats. Leave the skin on.
If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

Cut carp is excellent bait for blues and channel cat. Live carp up to 3lbs are excellent flathead bait. I think one of the reasons it's so good, is it's very oily like shad leaving a large scent trail for the cats to follow to your baited line. The Most Overlooked Cut-Bait for Catfish

Cut carp is one of the best. Only thing better is fresh shad and fresh bluegill.
You say you've had "mixed results" with it in the past. Were you trying it side by side with any other bait or by itself? If there are no cats around then it doesn't matter what bait you use. You may have had "mixed results" with any other bait as well, if there wasn't much action. I've used it right along side fresh shad and bluegill and it works just as well (for the most part).
I think a lot of people get too hung up on which baits to use and don't focus enough on actually finding the fish. If you really get on some active blues, it wont matter what you throw at them, shad, bluegill, carp, buffalo, tilapia, chicken liver, chicken breast, shrimp, etc... active and hungry blues will eat it all. I've even found blues with stomach's COMPLETELY full of mussels. Even the intestines were full to the brim of mussel shells.
If you don't get any action at any given spot within 30 minutes to an hour, move on. Rinse and repeat until you find them.
With all that being said. My preferred bait of choice is live bluegill, mainly due to reliability. I don't have a boat with a fancy graph on it so cast netting live gizzard shad is somewhat less reliable than catching myself some feisty gills. But when I do find big ole' gizzard shad (8"+) you cant really beat one of them cut in half. And I would take live bluegill over little threadfin any day of the week.

Live gizzard shad or fresh cut gizzard shad is my favorite followed by bluegill but I love cut carp for bait. Like others have said, scale it and cut into cubes about 2x2x2in. and hook through the corner and make sure you hook it through the skin, the skin is really tough especially on the old big ones and you wont have any problems with a big cat stealing your bait.

Scale it, filet it, cube it. Bigger chunks equal bigger cats. Leave the skin on. And don't wash it. The oil is what serves s the attractant. Buffalo works good, which is pretty much the same thing..

Thanks to all. Yep I guess I should have given it more time. I got bit more on the shad I was using and so I really only baited out about 6 hooks with it so I don't think it got the spread or comparison it deserved compared to shad. but I did get bit on two of the 6 I baited out on juglines. Was thinking that it could be an alternative when I didn't have shad available. I can catch of lot of carp on Granbury in a short amount of time so it seems to be a viable alternative to bait out my jugs or trotlines. Thanks for the reference to the video GoldenEye! I enjoyed it and it encouraged me to give carp more of a try. I know that it will stay on a hook better because of the meat and skin texture better than a shad. Thanks again to all!

could not agree more with the pro carp as bait responses - all i use on Cedar Creek when available (also recommend pork fat from your local butcher!! costs nothing and works really well)
