 70 hp mariner fuel problem

engine was idling fine while running on muffs, then.....
pulse line split open. replaced line, split it open immediately.
sounds like a bit too much pressure out of crankcase.
will check compression this afternoon.
any ideas ?

I know a lot of motors the pulse is reduced by an orifice.
