FLW or Bass opens . Entry is around 500 . No experience necessary and a good way to learn.

BASS Opens are $425 apiece. This year for the Central Open the 3 tourneys are really close to Texas! Arkansas River- out of Muskogee, OK Atchafalaya Basin- south Louisiana Red River- Bossier City, Louisiana
I fished them in 2012 and really enjoyed it!! All 6 Pros were extremely nice and I learned a lot from being with them. Very efficient, they adapt quickly, and they all seemed to have some local insight about the body of water though all of the ones I fished with had spent every practice day from sun-up to sun-down learning what they could. As to what level of "experience" needed- honestly I don't think it matters. I saw guys who had full tourney jerseys, sponsors, and were dead serious all the way to guys who fished it because their friend needed a "link" to make the field. On the boat I'd take no more than 5 rods and just 1 small bag for tackle and fish your strengths given the body of water you are fishing. You can always change up stuff for the 2nd day on the water and if you make the 3rd day then whatever you are doing is working really well!!

Keep in mind, just because these tournaments say "pros" on the boater side, it doesn't mean you're going to get a good one everytime. Anyone with the right money can enter these tournaments on the boater side. Especially the BFLs.
I'm saying this not to be negative about format, but to keep you from setting the bar too high for your boaters. Don't take for granted that you will draw a hoss at every tournament that is going to teach you "secrets". If it's the time of the year for brush piles, you will get front ended bad. If it's the spring time, expect for your boater to be sight fishing and you'll could be hung out to dry. You gotta have the right mindset to be a co-angler. Just enter to the tournament with the intentions of simply enjoying your day on the water. Anything else is just a bonus.

Very true Willie. I used to fish BWS in the East Texas division and had several bad draws where I might as well have not been there... I was pleasantly surprised to find the BASS events different though! Do your research, prefish if you get the chance, pay attention to what they are doing/using(faster/slower, type of cover) and Yes above all try to have Fun! It is Fishing!

I fished as a co last year with ABA. It's been renamed to the Ram Open Series this year. Much less money than the FLW Costas or the BASS Opens but great guys and competition. Their schedule this year conflicts with my Club so I can only fish the Palestine event, but you will learn a lot and have a great time.
