Brings back memories. I had an '86 Toyota with a 5 speed. Called the One Ton, it was the same size as a regular truck with heavy springs, brakes and a slightly lower geared transmission. It had the 2.4 4 cylinder (22REC) fuel injected engine in it. I traveled pulling the 18 foot Ranger for over half of the 240k miles it had on it when I sold it to buy my Dodge Cummins in '99. Longest one way trip was over 500 miles from GP to Osage Beach. That trip was made several times. I drove it all over Texas as well as several times to Arkansas and a couple times to Louisiana fishing tournaments.
Pulling a boat I got around 18mpg@70mph and running unloaded got 26 or so.
Most people back then thought it was too small but it lasted longer than many full sized trucks and just kept going. I could feel it had more power when I turned off the AC. Towing at 70 was no big deal. Eighty was done when I was late several times and it handled it fine.
