Need information. What is the difference between the Helix series and the regular Humminbird 899 or 1199 units?

I have an 899. It is a good unit, but the screen size is a little small and lacks resolution to get full use from the DI and SI and certainly too small to , IMO. If you can afford it go with at least a 10" screen. 8" seems too small to me for the multitasking that most of us expect to be able to do with our electronics nowadays.
I recently have begun to use autochart and it is an incredible tool. It would be very nice to have a graph with the "live" version. The best topos are surprisingly inaccurate. So don't discount the value of this feature.
So in a nutshell unless you are on a tight budget and are seeing an opportunity to purchase an 899 or 1199 at substantially reduced prices then don't. My 899 will probably wind up on the bow of the boat sometime next fall where it will be a very good and useful graph for 2d and DI.

Thank you for the input. I want at least a 9 or 10 inch screen.

"Fishthebite" Sorry to cut in here but I have a related question I have the Humminbird 899ci HD SI Combo and had heard that the addition of the HD transducer was a big help for the screen resolution. Do you find that to be true? Thoughts

Here is a screen shot from the Onix 8 on my boat the first trip with factory default settings. I have it better now after some time with it and tuning. The lines in the left water column is the jackplate. I figured out that the right speed and 1 mph faster on the screen speed takes them away. I like it real well, and if my console had the room I would have gotten a 10". I think the Helix units are great as well, I'm wanting one for the bow. I think it would be hard to go wrong with a Bird. I was a convert from Lowrance and it was a hard decision. Side Scan of some catfish. We caught two of them. Down Scan and 2d split view. Not bad for 8" screen

I like that 360 and wish I had one sometimes. Is the pig at 20:00 by the inside ring?

Do you find that to be true? Thoughts I don't know if I have the HD transducer or not, lol. I only know that there isn't enough screen for me to run both the chart and the sidescan and to be able to readily identify fish. And even with the chart off the resolution seems to be lacking. Of course my eyes have 5 decades of wear and tear now and my vision isn't as sharp as it I like to think it once was. And if someone else has great up close vision an 8" screen with high resolution may work great for them.
