If I eventually relocate for my job, it'll hopefully be Lake Murray, SC.

We decided to build on Lake Athens, almost done.

Access to I-45 was important.

Home lake will be great and:

Close to Purtis Creek, Cedar Creek, Palestine, Trinity River, Richland Chambers, Fairfield, Tyler lakes and several others.

Not too far to Tawakoni, Lake Fork and others.

Great variety, anyway.

If not for family reasons, I think I might be inclined to move to Florida. Woo! That'd be great for freshwater and saltwater.

I agree about Florida Brad - we do like to saltwater fish as well. We've spent a good amount of time there and have considered moving there when I retire, or at least rent a house for a month or two during the off-peak season.

from my house..20 min to pirky(brandy branch), 40 min to martin creek, 45 min to LOP, 1 hour to nagoniche and pinkston, wright patman, palestine, etc...1.45 to TB and fork....and on and on and NW louisiana and red river......google maps is a great source to look at lakes in the area.......all have crappie and LMB and catfish....NO STATE INCOME TAXES !!!!! short winters and low cost of living.......

i have 1/2 acre for sale in the scottvilee area, ..........just saying...

North Arkansas would be my dream area. I love the river and lakes in that area of the state

Well....like so many others, I'm building on the freshwater that is both convenient to my life and I love....upstream of the salt barrier on Chocolate Bayou. Within a few miles or so, and I know the area well, there are hundreds of species of both fresh and salt water fishes. Easily fished by kayak, jon boat, flats boat, just about anything that floats.

No doubt many Texas rivers I've fished in the Piney Woods, Hill Country, Coastal Plane, Cross Timbers, etc. would all make absolutely heavenly places to live and fish.

But for a cool place to both live and fish, with the fish being the primary consideration.....a place I once visited and fished called "Hog Valley, Florida" on the Ocklawaha River and Rodman Reservoir. I caught and saw fish there that folks dream about.

In our two day excursion we caught huge largemouths, giant what they called "mudfish" (we'd call grinnel or bowfin), hugest warmouths, redears and coppernose bluegills you could imagine. We saw striped bass and watched as an osprey and an eagle fought over the half pound rainbow colored shiners we had for bait.

Not to mention the people we met, all of which could make any "reality show" on tv seem lame.

Lake ATHENS. Great place to live. Brad, you are going to love it.

Beaver Lake, Arkansas

Trick question...I want to fish Salt and Fresh and Houston is PRIME TIME for both. You can't beat the location of Houston to Fayette for bass; Conroe for bass and cats; Somerville for Bass, cats and crappie; Gibbons for bass, crappie and cats and the entire Texas coast for reds, flounder, trout, sharks, you name it!!!

No question about it....Alaska in the summers and East Texas in the winters.

There is no place in the entire world to compare to Alaska. Best fresh water fishing by far.

In East Texas, you have close access to great lakes with top notch fishing venues...and mild winters.

Anywhere close to New Orleans or that area would be the ticket. I've never been ANYWHERE that has what that area has to offer. You can literally fish or hunt for just about anything all within half an hour or closer. When they say it's sportsman's paradise it couldn't be closer to the truth. I only worked there for a little over a year and I bass fished after work almost daily. I could run for a couple minutes and be in Pontchartrain salt water fishing or go 4 wheeler riding or hunting. I loved it. They also noodles for some big gar and plenty of white perch to go around.

Looking at Denison county, Lake Texoma seems to have it all. Besides my only grandson is 55 mi in Mc Kinney!

I want a cabin on Somerville, because it is close, a fish camp on the Brazos River, a lot for a travel trailer in NE Texas somewhere, and my wife and I plan on building a one room cabin on family land in northern Idaho

Well....sorta...I done spent a lot of time under freshwater during summer in Alaska, fishin', but for something other'n fish.

Fishin' for that elusive yellow metal on the bottom of the river. "There is no place in the entire world compared to Alaska."

Our hosts at gold camp on the Forty-Mile Creek, tributary of the Yukon, lived there on the river bank in summer and in Key West in winter. Pretty much best of both worlds, except maybe the very loooooong drive back and forth.

We visited Alaska summer of 2003. My first reaction upon seeing it was I sort of understood why a young man might go up there on a trip, then never come back. Lots of opportunities, too.

My son lived there for a time, then my sis in law and bro in law were there for almost 20 years.

Winters are brutal . . . and dark. But, those summers are super.


Yes to the New Orleans area, too, with its eclectic cultures. I have fished for reds/bass/flounder down in Venice several times. Now, that would keep a fisherman super busy.
