Has anybody heard when Riverside park will reopen?
Trying to get info from the Corps is impossible.
I'm guessing when it does reopen it will be for boat launch only with the new generation and increase in releases.

i called once when they first closed the park and was fortunate to talk to a fellow that was a fisherman and very interested in kayak fishing. He was the most informative person I have talked to at the COE office. Most of the time it is just "the park is closed until further notice". This is number I call (254) 622-3332, it is probably the same number you are calling. If anyone finds out anything new please let us know. The Brazos below Whitney is a great place to fish and kayak.

Has anybody ever tried the Nature Center South. I've always wanted to but I'm wondering how much of a pain it is to plan in advance/pay them.

I called this morning and they said it's still closed but gave a very rough estimate of it reopening by April 1.

When you talked to them did they indicate kayaks would be allowed? I read that boats could launch but nothing was said about kayaks. I know they are saying no wade fishing or swimming.

I drive over the 2114 bridge daily and it is amazing, in the morning the river looks almost dry but the afternoon tells a very different story. I'm really worried about the quality of fishing with the water fluctuation being so great in such a short period of time.

the fish will adjust to the changing water levels much faster than us fishermen will!

I'll take generation 5 days a week over drought condition releases. Should keep fishing good throughout the hotter months, I'm wondering if they will ever publish a generation schedule like other similar dams(Denison, etc). Seems incredibly dangerous not to let the public know as much info as they can.

They didn't say anything about whether kayaks would be able. I don't know that there's any precedent for saying boats but not kayaks, so I've always assumed kayaks would be able to launch.

I think the problem is that the generators run more as "on demand" now and not on a regular schedule. Which means that they come on without much warning or prediction as the demand for power hits a certain threshold.

It is open...BUT, they are generating almost every day and they won't release a schedule.
A couple Sundays ago, we got there in the morning right as they blew the horn. It's a wave of water, 4500cfs that comes out, I would not want to be caught on the river unless you had a shuttle planned out down river at Dick's.
Luckily, I had the jet sled and ran down river to beat the new water, but it kept catching us. Running back up, the river obviously looks completely different with all that flow. Have tried to fish it a couple times in high water, but I get on the oars and others fish. Can't imagine having much fun by myself in a kayak trying to fish that high water.
