I think I'm planning spring break right for my 9 year old daughter, but looking for other ideas too.
Keeping trip short to day and half to keep boredom down and won't fish all day long. I'll have my boat for bass fishing, hopefully get her on some fun sight fish! also have Zach Hughes booked for 3-4 hours Crappie for some more catching and she's more comfortable Crappie fishing. mom working, so will just be us. we're staying at Oak Ridge.
if I can tell she's getting bored or tired with the fishing, any parks/playgrounds that way or interesting museums? just trying to be prepared, my dad always made fishing hunting trips interesting and not only my best memories, but also why I still love doing it.
thanks!

I know it's an hour from Fork, but the freshwater fisheries center in Athens is a really cool place for kids.

Quitman has a nice big park.great place for a picnic as well...Took my boys there when over that way...You are doing it right Dad. Keep it light and fun.
The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

There is a SRA park on the opposite side of 154 from Oak Ridge. On the right before the bridge if you're headed North. I think it has some playground equipment but not sure. Mineola nature preserve is really nice. It's on HWY 69 just south of town headed toward Lindale. And yes, the TFFC in Athens would be a blast for her, Rob!

Hey Rob, being local to the area my kids definitely approve of the quitman playground and the Athens fisheries center. Also had my kid out last year for a few hours one evening sight fishing he was 5 and as long as he could see them good he was very into it. When I stopped to catch a 9 that was too deep for him to see but too big for me to pass up, he got bored quick and I think some of my baits got thrown in the water, lol. That kid loves to throw anything in the water. Anyways if she can see them she'll have fun

I make sure there are always plenty of snacks on the boat for my son. I seem to pack more for a 1/2 day of fishing with him in the boat then I would for a week, lol. Just keep in mind it's about her and not yourself. Hope you guys enjoy the week.

Just bring along a fun bag - dolls, video games, book - whatever a nine year old is into these days. If she gets bored she can dig into the bag and dad can see maybe its time to go in. With my granddaughter, before the fishing trip we always stopped for snack pick-up at the local grocery store and afterward was usually reason for a Braum's Ice Cream stop.

It is between canton and grand saline. The biggest gator there is actually Lake Fork. Plenty of snakes and animals to hold if she'll do it... The food was pretty good as well. Went there last year with some family and had a great time! As mentioned the fisheries center in Athens is fantastic. If she'd just like to get off the water for a bit to go eat, Big Mouth Burger Company on the square in Emory is absolutely delicious. There is a small railroad museum in Mineola as well as one of the oldest running movie theatres in the state. The nature preserve is there as well. http://www.mineolanaturepreserve.com/

I took my fiancee's 12 year old bowling in Mineola. That gave us something else enjoyable that we could do together as well. Mineola is only about 15 miles from Alba.
