I saw it with my own two eyes about 10 years ago. If I tried to tell you people how big it was, you wouldn't believe me. Have any of you ever seen it?

I saw a photo of one on Fork that was almost the size of a sea turtle.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

we came out of Popes once and headed to the west side of Mustang under the bridge. Laying on about half the way up the rip/rap we spotted what looked like a flying saucer had landed. A we approached very slowly to get a better look we saw that it was a jurasic snapping turtle. It's head to neck had to be two feet..!!! OMG,..it slowly slide into the water. Honest.

Not on Fork but - I saw one in the Trinity in Lewisville a few years ago, from a kayak. I swear it looked like King Koopa. He was sunning on a piece of flat concrete at the end of a drain, he was EASILY 3' in diameter, closer to 4. And to this day still the biggest turtle I've ever seen.

That's more like the size of the one we saw. The one we saw came up less than 5 feet from the front of our boat. Its head was as big around as a volley ball and the shell was at least 3.5' - 4' wide. It was scary and cool to see. I was trying to get the camera but it submerged before I could snap a pic. I looked it up on national geographic and they said that these turtles could live up to 250 years.

I have seen 2 the size y'all are describing in Oil Well bay. One came beside the boat on the 2225 road bed. I looked my buddy and asked if he saw what I saw. He said yes, but he wasn't going to tell anybody because no one would believe us. The other was a little smaller but still big. Some teenage boys caught it on a trotline and had it pinned to the front of an aluminum boat with a paddle on top of its head, under the shell. It hung over both sides of the front of the boat. I asked him what he was going to do with it. He shook his head and said he had know idea, but was too afraid to let go of the paddle. I just laughed and told them not to let the game warden catch them with it.

I seen one in Chaney last year while looking for bedfish that was huge. Probably 4' wide. Biggest I have ever seen.
I hate photobucket.

The people that have seen this or these turtles are afraid to tell people about them because they're afraid no one will believe them. I can tell you that I've seen it and I believe it. The one we saw was dang near as wide as out BassCat Cougar.
