I just spent the past week on Lake fork. The fishing was good and not so good. Tuesday got three bites one 8-2, one 6-12 and another 6-6. got progressively slower as the week went on.The question I have is about the mats of Pennywort in Running Creek. It has taken over most banks and has big mats floating in the middle. It is not listed in the invasive species list. It wasn't like that last spring. Does antbody have a comment about this ?

It is where the big fish hide. Learning to fish it is a must and the more of it the better.
Did you take a picture of it? Just wanting to see the difference between it and Hydrilla.

I know taking a 3/4-1oz weight on and punching it will vet you a fish or 3.

Don't like the part about spreading rapidly and cutting off the oxygen causing fish to die. This could make for a big problem.

It may hold fish thus punching would be the way to fish it.To me the only other way would be fish the edges. This plant I 6 to 10" tall, you can't fish anything over it. To me it is covering a lot of good spawning bank,IMO.

Spell check did that and I didn't catch it. Apparently you haven't been up Running Creek. It looks like it could become a problem if it spreads quickly. Just concerned about one of my favorite lakes.

Emailed TP&W,they said it was a native plant and was plentiful because of the high water and warm winter. Said it may cause navigational problems and or acces by home owners. Said it does not need controlling.

I know taking a 3/4-1oz weight on and punching it will vet you a fish or 3. That's fun, it's like being in Florida. Close quarter combat, up thight and personal...LOL.. You really couldn't do that with the hyacinth, you can with the penntwort. My crazy wife and a couple neighbors pulled a huge mat out onto the ground last Sunday. I'm waiting to see if starts to grow again with all the rain...

From what I have read it will root when it comes in contact with the soil thus enabling it to produce seeds. I'm coming back to Fork in March with some 3/4 to 1 oz weights, Look out Running Creek!!

I powered through some of it in Glade a couple of weeks ago too. I didn't seem to see it very heavy again until WAY back in Lake Fork Creek, but it is mixed with other floating mats. Looks to be good potential, and will hopefully be controlled by native predation.
