Nelsonca, looks like a tube jig you are using? Salt and peper tube jig? fishytx I was using a tube jig at first but couldn't catch anything. All my fish were caught on white with grey spots rooster tail.

Weather pattern looks like plenty of sunshine for a while longer.. The yegua is going to run low on fish at the rate they are being pulled out! Yakkers working the lower end up to Newmans might be the ticket now and until we get some rain.. I'm most curious about Birch creek and the crappie fishing from the lower end to about 2 miles upstream. The water is stained more then usual but that might not be a deal killer when it comes to crappie fishing.. I don't expect there to be many whitebass up in Birch without a good flow of fresh water, but since the high water last year everything about these creeks is out of whack both good and bad..
I too have noticed the small sunfish/crappie/bass population explosion all around the lake which must be a result of the flood greatly increasing the size of the lake for most of last year during the spawning season. All the little fish had places to hide, feed & grow protected from predators until the lake receded back to normal..

Paddled my kayak across the lake from nails creek park to the yegua. Took about 30 minutes to get across. Being my first time in this part of the creek, I wasn't sure how far up the creek to go to find the crappie and white bass, so I jigged in fallen trees along the way. Ended up catching black bass like crazy. Caught 34 black bass total and one white at the end. 25 of those bass came out of one tree. There were many small ones, but I also caught some decent sized keeper fish, with one probably pushing 4lbs. Was surprised that I only caught black bass, but I guess you have to paddle further up to the creek to find the whites and crappie. One gentleman passed me on the way out and said he caught a number of keeper crappie and only three black bass.

I would still like to see a three foot rise. Since Newman's doesn't look like it will open this year, a rise would bring some fish farther upstream where the anglers are. So would I. I see it in the smaller creeks even more dramatically. I went over to Irwin for the first time in a couple weeks. When I got there around 9:30 I couldn't believe how small the crowd was. I talked to a couple people near the parking lot and they were skunked. I caught one WB on the first curve drifting a clouser into the deepest part of the hole. I moved on around the horseshoe and didn't get a bite. I moved on down and talked to a few more fisherman that were skunked. I stopped at the log we fished at before. I got down on the sandbar and fished it from upstream. I had to throw the fly up against the log in such a way that the fly line landed downstream of it. That was the only way I could get it to sink quick enough to get into that sweet spot. I caught 3 there then decided to go hiking downstream and check it out. I met 3 more pairs of fisherman and they had one white bass total. Called it a morning around noon.

Hate to say it but I'm not a fan of that Academy. Their clothes and such may be ok but their fishing dept sucks.

It was a great day in the creek, even if the whites did not show up. Plenty of other fish decided to join the party. Your videos are getting good Sam. Now if you could just move the Yegua closer to San Antonio and Nails creek park closer to the creek to shorten the drive and paddle then you would really be accomplishing something. It was good seeing everyone. Til the next adventure....

caught a lot of fish but not a lot of keepers, bass, crappie and no white bass. Enjoyed the video as always. I haven't been able to fish with you this year since Newman's is closed. I don't enjoy that paddle from Nails. I knew the white bass fishing was tough around Irwin but I didn't realize it was tough below Newman's as well. Was the water extremely clear down there as well?

I met 3 more pairs of fisherman and they had one white bass total. Called it a morning around noon. I saw that same thing at Irwin Bridge on Friday. My wife and I were out there by 9am. parking lot was 1/4 full. Some people had one, but most had no fish. We managed only small undersized black bass, and crappie. We left at noon to go eat in Giddings. We came back to Irwin Bridge at 3pm. Same amount of people/cars. Walked down stream. I caught many small black bass and perch and only 4 whites. This time I saw two men with 10+ walking back around 5pm. I don't know how far they walked. I think I heard them tell some folks "30-45 minutes walk". These days, that is too far for me! My wife and I caught a lot of small black bass and perch this day. only 5 whites between us. But, we enjoyed the sun and mother nature. It is nice just to be out there. Maybe this thing will going soon. We could use a little rain to help it. We were thinking about going back today or monday. But, we might just wait and see. Tight lines!
Shut up and fish!

I have them in my fishing room. Last time I counted, I had over a 100 packs of the 1/32 oz jigs. I buy them when ever I find them. The main peg boards in my fishing room are full of bass fishing tackle, the jig board is the smallest one.
