I have fished out of a kayak before but I'm looking to buy my own now. Preferably a sit on top kayak and I really don't want to spend more than 400 dollars. Any suggestions on where I should start or what kayak I should buy

Look for something used on CL, or even a sale at Academy. That price range is going to be a little difficult to find something really good.

Ok so let's say there is not price limit what would be a good beginner kayak to start out with?

What types of bodies of water will you be fishing?

How will you be transporting the kayak?

How often do you want to fish?

i will most likely be fishing rivers and creeks maybe get out on the lake here and there. i will mostly like be transporting the kayak on top of my car and i would want to fish with it a couple times a month more so in the summer time

Okay. Do you fell that you can safely car top a kayak that weight 75lbs or more alone?

A brand new cheap kayak plus paddle plus PFD will run you at least $500-600. Check in the for sale section here, on craigslist, and there are other kayak sites with "for sale" sections. Do some online reading, there are a lot of good kayak reviews out there.

Find that balance between your budget, your weight + gear, and type of fishing/body of water you'll do most.

Then you should be good with almost any type of SOT kayak. Maybe ask around about Demos. It might be hard this time of year, and I don't know how far you are from DFW. Read the other topics on here concerning what type of kayak to get and look at other people's input. Someone may have a certain kayak that you think will fit your needs the most.

your local kayak shops have some good deals going on right now. I would call Mariner Sails or APT and see what they have

What do y'all think of the heritage angler 10?

Seems like a decent starter rig. But you really might be able to find a 12 footer for that price point by walking into any given Academy. They put different kayaks on great sales ever so often. So with this weather I would wait a tad bit longer for a 12 footer. The added length will help more than you think.

Really guys? Wally world has yaks as low as $188 and Cabellas (went to waco today) has SOTs as lower than $400. If you're looking for cheap then do some searching in the for sale section, craigslist, and other options. Take some time to search and you can even build one yourself fairly cheaply if you've got enough space. Fishingpreacher builds them as well as myself and Gerald. I've got one that I'm still trying to get to the point of final design so I can make it.

Check w/ the bear mountain in waco too. Sometimes they have good deals or demo boats in decent shape.
