Before they opened Squaw they stocked thousands of Hybrid Stripers. I used to catch tons of them. Are they gone too?

My dad used to catch smallies when he was a kid. My grandpa was a game warden and they would go out at night and catch them around lights. He was 2oz shy of the lake record. Used to catch walleye ad well

I caught a hybrid out of there 2 years ago a little over 18". It weighed 4.06 on certified scales. Squaw Hybrid

Me and a buddy would stop off at that bait store before you turn on the boat ramp road and buy these huge shiners. We would go out and kill the big smallies with them. Good clean fillets that tasted great! Fun times.

Palmetto Bass, the striped/white bass hybrids, were still found in the latest TPWD 2015 survey but it is referred to as a low density population. Apparently, the actual intended stocking of them ceased decades ago but some where used in a cold water emergency cooling reservoir . . . and they escaped creating the sparse population in the main lake.
Sounds a bit like the theme from Jurassic Park!
No white bass, no SMBs, no walleyes.
The report mentions it assumes there is good forage in the lake based on the health of the LMBs and the channel cats they are seeing.
Wheeler Branch is way better suited for SMBs I'd think than Squaw. They are in there; tough to catch. I hear about a few caught each year.
I think Stetson has had a few trips to Wheeler where he has caught several.
