I've noticed it's almost a weekly topic. I would figure someone has a navigation chip they would sale to the public. I do understand keeping secrets to keep an advantage.

Too much liability, there is no real "safe" way to navigate Palestine

So my question is why make a lake that way? Knock some trees down and make it safe to travel. Or was lake Palestine not man made? Id love to fish it, but I will never take the chance.

Just get out on the lake and take it easy . There is know other way to learn it. Get all the paper maps you can and go from there. The lake is worth spending the time to learn.

The lakes were built for flood control, fishing is just a by product. The same reason they don't hold them at a constant level, fishing is a by product.
As stated you just have to run the lake to learn it or fish the areas that aren't heavily timbered.

If you don't have complete confidence, idle! Been through there 200 times as a passenger in 25 years or so and I still don't feel confident in running those same areas myself. Figure out how long it will take you to idle to your spot, factor in North winds and rough water too! If you hit the right stretch in Feb you'll only need a few hours to fish anyways. Outside of that, honestly its not always the best fisherman that wins on Palestine, its the boat that knows how to move quickly in-and-out of productive water without being stranded behind to get to the productive water. Hence, it favors that boat!
Or, wait another 5 weeks or so for the South end to warm?

Yes it's man made but it was built in 1962. Boats back the didn't have the range they do today. People put in and spent a day fishing within a short distance of their launch. I doubt anyone building a lake considers what boats will be like 50 years later and incorporates that into the design.

For the same reason they left timber and cover in Fork, Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Sandlin, Ray Roberts, and on and on. It provides cover for the fish and the forage. If I were building a lake, I'd leave a bunch in there. P.S. All Texas lakes, with the exception of Caddo, are man made.

Kickapoo area used to be easy to navigate once upon a time. Just run the high line and pipeline right-a-ways in those '70 model VIP's, Kingfishers, Skeeters, etc. Just like roadways through the forrest. Anyone else remember the good 'ol days.....

Cost to much money to clear them out. Why would you anyway, but a lane would nice. So my question is why make a lake that way? Knock some trees down and make it safe to travel. Or was lake Palestine not man made? Id love to fish it, but I will never take the chance. C
