Never been on the lake gonna be there this weekend. Looking for into on running the lake a good ramp to use. Probably plan to launch up in Kickapoo and fish up there some then launch at a teams down south to fish that end later in day. Always hear about the stumps on this lake not wanting to run into anything. Thanks TFF!

If you launch at Kickapoo, there won't be any running. So you're good there.

The rest of the lake, not so sure. In a nutshell, anything north of the 155 bridge you better be on the East bank. There are some widow makers in front of The Villages, then you're clear north to the woods. If you've not fished it before, personally I wouldn't run a boat any further North or West of the Villages.

I'm sure some others will chime in. I still get puckered up running around there, and I was running a boat through the woods up North in the early 80s. FYI, there's PVC with rebar marking shortcuts up there. Been there forever. grin

WATCH OUT FOR STUMPS! North end is full of them and with the water up they are all about 6" under water. You WILL hit them, hopefully you will be slow enough for no damage. Once you get south of the bridge it is a little more open, but as bigfish said stay on the east side if you are "running".

Don't come looking for me if you loose a lower unit. The map is for "general idea" purposes only.

I highly advise you that if you put in a Kickapoo stay there, maybe run the powerlines to the other side than idle North into the river. Do not try to run South from the power lines your first outing, it will be your last for a pricey few months!

Yes, we have our share of Meth-Heads in the area, don't leave anything visible in the truck. Should be fine after sun-light there, its the hours before sunbreak that are a little shady theft wise there.

Also, if you have a spare prop you don't like, put it on for idling in Kickapoo (trust me), your prop is going to get worked-over unlike any where else idling that stump field for the first time, lol!

Everyone gave you good solid advice. Kickapoo is definitely a mind field but as long as you idle sloooooowwwww you will be ok. The only place you can run is along the power lines but be very cautious and stay tight to them. If u want open trouble free water fish saline bay its on fire right now. Fish stay shollow year round on them waters. Good luck brother.

Most of that lake is a nightmare to run dude. Be really careful. I've never seen more "pucker factor" on a lake.

You need to put H&W Marine phone number beside that green trail you have drawn on west bank from the bridge past Caney to Flat. I bet you 90% of the guys that fish that lake have no idea there is timber WAYYY out on the left hand point going into Saline Bay. I have a tree GPS'd that is down south of Sea Plane cove that is in 30ft of water. Showed itself when the lake was low. I know a guy that knocked off a lower unit down there where there aint supposed to be trees. I am betting the one I am talking about is the tree that got him. I would have bet anybody there were no trees that far south. It is basically in the line that you would run coming from deep end ramp running toward horse farm. It holds a few Crappie to.

Appreciate the help guys lots of solid info here! I'm probably just gonna avoid Kickapoo because I won't be able to trailer in tournament and I don't wanna spend all day trying to idle back there

Ain't that the truth! Speaking of that, does anyone have and care to share the coordinates for the cut through those trees?

The majority of the tournaments on Palestine are held out of the Villages, you still need to be shown how to run the tree lines out of there. Kickapoo is about 50 minute idle from there North. Anywhere South or due West of the Villages will still result in you knowing where the trees are/aren't. Call Tom Mayne, take a trip with him or find a friend that really knows what they are doing!

Hell, the maps themselves made me pucker. The wife and I spent a full day here a couple months ago and I ran all over the south end looking for spots. I must've breezed 1000 stumps without ever knowing it. Whew!

I always launch at the dam an fish the south end with lots of action. Nothing big, but always catch fish in the coves to the west.

I run the lake the same way Stew showed on his map. Of course there's a little bit more to it when you get out there...

I can run without uncontrollable fear from the Villages across the huge bay north of it, around the point, and past the boat docks along the way to the next point. After that I pucker greatly and sometimes cry like a little girl.

Then again, I have only been fishing out there for about the last 17 years.

If anyone has the GPs cords for those trees in front of the villages I would appreciate it. I feel comfortable running to my spots I plan to fish now.

bump for the guy asking about running the lake. I would not run the west side of the lake any at this water level especially between caney creek and the 155 bridge lots of trees in that area.

you referring to me? also thanks guys for the info on how to run the lake. we caught on last weekend (2nd time out) to hug the banks running most of the lake after we followed boats so if they hit a stump we could avoid it roflmao. that lake will tear a boat up though. probably hit a solid 200-300 stumps, bottomed the boat out a solid 10 times while fishing and tore up the prop trying to get unstuck, plus a stump caught on to a talon power cord and ripped it out and got caught in the prop before we noticed it. very destructive lake...

I wouldn't cut that corner coming out of Highsaw/Ledbetter going south to the dam either.(no red marked in that area on the map) Highsaw cove (not labeled on map) is the southern most 155 bridge and says "Lime Street"...that point with Lime Street on it is full of big trees...if you round that corner again going south to the dam make a very wide turn. Like others have said before me, this is a decent map (thanks for taking effort to mark it!!) and accurate for the most part-just no way to show all the danger areas on Palestine going both north and south.
