I thought I'd post this just for you guys looking for some place different to fish that has potential to produce that catch of a lifetime. This lake holds the majority of the top 10 LMB's in the bayou state including the #1 spot with fish ranging from just above 14.00 to just under 16.00. It was basically destroyed back in the mid 90's by the LDWF stocking way to many sterile grass carp to try and control vegetation but those carp have hit the end of there life expectancy and have died off allowing the lake to recover. Last spring in produced two fish over 13.00 and recently produced one over 10.00 which by today's standards is no monster but still shows this lake is getting its potential back. It is A 7500 acre impoundment located near Jonesboro, Louisiana; very clear most of the time, and situated in the pine hill country of north Louisiana. It is easy to get to from east Texas by taking I-20 to Ruston and then heading south to Jonesboro via 167 for roughly about 20 miles. Take HWY 4 east out of Jonesboro and its about a 10 mile drive until you cross it at Brown's Landing which has a store, restaurant, and boat ramp. Cabins are also available for rent on the lake as well....... http://www.louisianasportsman.com/details.php?id=9157

Yes it does.....I hope to get back on it next year. I want to rent a cabin and stay for about a week. I've also been thinking about buying my retirement home there as well........

I drove around it last February while I was at home looking at property and every cove or point I drove across had lily pads in it.......it can only get better from there. I think what makes this lake so special is it has a number of chicken houses around it. It gets high nitrogen run off from those chicken houses being there and it grows very healthy vegetation and lots of hydrilla. That was the reason for the carp release. All the vegetation should be making a come back, I figure the lily pads are a very good indicator that is happening because it was pretty much naked until recently.........

Yea lets just hope the LDWF doesn't make the mistake and restock it with carp if the hydrilla comes back heavy. hopefully they learned from the mistake they made last time. so this time they just release enough carp to keep it under control.

If you do Google Earth on this lake you can see the lily pads returning on the northern reaches of the lake. I do think eventually they will have to do some sort of weed control again because the property owners will force the issue at some point. When the carp were released it was due to pressure from the property owners and a lot of them had a legitimate gripe because they had boat houses and piers they could no longer launch from due to the amount of hydrilla on the lake. Like you said Bass-n-Buck, hopefully the LDWF with think this through a little better. I'd like to see them do something other than the carp myself. I think if LDWF does their part correctly this lake may one day produce a new record possibly bigger than the current Texas state record due to all the components that have come together at this lake.......

Ain't nobody going down there...too far off the beaten path. I have a cousin who can beat anybody on that lake. He has two DD off it so far. He doesn't even mention his big slot fish.

It used to get a lot of local traffic but probably not so much. When I lived there it was very busy but nothing like what Fork sees. The only other issue I ever saw with is this lake is a 14 - 21 slot lake and lot of the locals thought they could ignore the slot and haul out all the fish they caught. I saw the GW's make examples of a few folks at the boat ramp down by the dam. I don't know how much effect that had on the overall picture of folks wanting to keep what they caught but I'm sure word got around......

Caney still gets a ton of pressure. Starting now thru the spawn it will get hammered. I have 2 tourneys on Caney this month and there are at least 4 more tourneys that I know of this month. Its starting to get better and one of my favorite places to fish.

My cuz was out there today setting waypoints on his new boat. This spring, the bream fishermen are going to keep every bass they catch as long as there's no warden in sight. Heck I even kept a big one, one time. She may have been over, I didn't measure, but she was so old that she was going to die. Probably didn't weigh three pounds, on a huge frame. I can't wait to go home to Choudrant and get with my cuz so we can hammer them on D'arbonne and Caney.

I live out near Fork and fished it a lot before I had kids and college to pay for, Fork is roughly twice the size of Caney and almost every weekend it sees multiple tournaments at a time which on the weekends can make the fishing slow. I became a mid week fisherman because of that, no traffic and the fish had settled down and would bite a lot better. I did the same thing when we had a camp on Caney with pretty much the same results.....The only thing I really had to worry about was the guys with the A-10 Wart Hogs flying the lake looking for bass boats to kill, they'd scare you to death............
