I went to work for Skeeter as marketing director in 1990. Ken Burroghs was president at the time. Thats when the 20 footers were developed and the 200 came to be. Thats when we started the NFL tournament which paired professional football players with state, national and pro team members. It was out of Morgan City LA on the Atchafalaya Basin. It was a fun time seeing some of these guys who never fished before. I will never forget Ken and I were heading from the hotel to the ramp to help out when we passed this big guy sitting on the side of the road with a tackle box and fishing rod in his hand. We stopped and asked him if he needed a ride. He responded with yes, I partied to much last night and missed my ride this am. Turned out it was Mean Joe Green. that would be awesome! WOW. One of my favorites football players of all time.

Here is a rough map of the boat lanes and big bass holes these fish came from. I plan to do a custom map that will be more precise. I still have to create notes. Hope this will help you catch Big Bass [img:left] [/img]

One of the better posts I've read in awhile. You have some great stories. Thanks for sharing.
Next time I'm on Toledo Bend, I might just zig zag the edge of those boat lanes looking for the log piles.

Spring Lizard Dog, You are a class act buddy! This is what makes this site so great! It is pretty special to share information to help others. It is a very unselfish act and will be appreciated one day by some fortunate bass fisherman who catches his personal best!

I'm too old to stand up and fish all day like I used to in tournaments. I just want to help everyone of you have a fishing career of a lifetime so end the end you can say I did it all. I will help anyone on here. I used to put on winter fishing seminars and shared my strategies and techniques. Made a lot of good friends along the way. As Gus said in lonesome dove on his death bed to Capt Call: "Its been a hell of a ride"

Did you ever meet Dickie Colburn from Orange? He used to guide full time on Toledo Bend and seems he mentioned your name to me way back then.

Think I remember him maybe from the Ford Dealers for Bass Circuit I used to fish. I met so many people from all over everywhere back then. Every tournament was like old home coming.

Funny story for you all. I fished a tournament in late November 1978 3 day tournament Thursday - Saturday on TB Weather was turning cold with sleet and ice in forecast. Thursday it was 28. Everyone was catching lots of fish pre-fishing First Day I drew a guy from California. He had never caught a bass over 4 lbs and was really excited to fish with me. When I woke up Thurs am at 4:30 stepped out on the stairway of the trailer and slipped on the ice. Boy did I get excited because I knew what the fish were going to do. I dressed appropriately, snowmobile suit, boots, cotton gloves with surgical gloves over them a pair of welders gloves for running and a race car helmet sprayed with de-icer. My partner showed up in shorts and a T-Shirt shivering. I took him to the trailer gave him some warm clothes and a coat and told him to buy a rain suit at San Miquiel Marina. They were plastic and cost $2.00. I made my 17 mile run north into freezing rain, 30 mph north wind and pulled up to a hole where crappie fishermen had tied a truck load of xmas trees to an oak that fell off a 7 ft ledge to 25 ft. I tied up to the tree. My partner was in convulsions and couldn't get out of his seat. I poured hot coffee on his hands so he could pick up his rod. I dropped my 3/8 oz black/yellow ducktail with a spring lizard water dog attached vertical down into the trees and hit my partner in the chest with an eight pounder. That got his attention. I made 6 more vertical drops and the smallest was 7 lbs 3 oz. During all this he said My God I've never seen anything like this before. You catch em and I'll net em. I drew a good east tx fisherman the second day who I overheard him talking to my first day partner so I had to change my game plan. I pulled up about 30 yes short of the spot and cast into nowhere and he immediately cast on top of my jig. I made about 10 casts no results and my partner said well I guess you caught em all yesterday. As he was talking I was bumping the trolling motor over to the top of the spot. By this time he had his back to me so I dropped my jig down into the xmas trees did not say anything until that big boy was beside the boat. Hoisted him in and my partner got real excited. I made several casts away from the spot and again he became complacent had his back to me as I put another big one in the boat. I did this one more time before he saw what I was doing and figured it out. I had 3 he had 0. I moved back down to the lake and fished a couple of slides and limited out. He did catch one 8 pounder. When we came to the way in passed the barge and they asked if we needed a fish bag he said I need one but this guy needs two because his won't fit into one bag. Pulled up at the shore beside a new ranger with two classy color coordinated fishermen who were over excited about their catch and started pulling out 4, 5 and 6 pounders. My partner said is that all you got? they looked at him like he was from mars and he started pulling my fish out and put 4 in one bag and 3 in the other. The guy said man we will be lucky to even place in this tournament if everyone caught fish like that. There were a lot of zips in this tournament as crank baits and spinner baits would do no good with the weather change. Lucky for me I won the tournament. First place $5,000 today it would have paid 50,000l.
