With 2015 coming to a end, some of us are already thinking about 2016. What are your fishing goals and priorities for 2016 and how was your 2015?

With the floods my 2015 was not as productive as I wanted. Did manage a couple of pbs blue cats. My goals for 2015: Especially when school lets out, Fish 4 different lakes in 5 days for different species. Night fish using my green light out of my kayak. I have used it with great success out of my boat but never out of my kayak. Also night fish lighted docks. Host an open invite to those wanting to learn how to catch spawning channel catfish. Im not claiming to be a pro at it but during the summer a bad day for me is 15 to 20 (HAWK is my witness lol). They should be huge this year! Most important; fish more with the great guys/gals here on the kayak page. It seems we use to have WAY more get-to-gathers/open invites.
Common carp 26 Goldfish 9.78lb Mirror Koi 14lb Koi 16lb Channel Catfish 26lbs Blue Cat 30lb Bass 9.5lb

2015 was a tough year fishing wise for me. With all the flooding and high water levels and it seemed my schedule was always out of sync with good days to be on the water. Big fish numbers were way down from last year but I did luck out and catch a new PB LMB of 11.25 lbs fishing with my guide friend Randy Oldfield on Lake Fork at 1:00 AM in July. The best days of my year were 3 special days that I shared with people in my life. Day 1, I got to witness my buddy Mike Whitacre catch his PB LMB, a 10.50 lb beauty on Lake Ivie Day 2, I had my dad out in my tandem on Purtis Creek, he caught his new PB LMB of 25.25" I was way more excited than he was. He's still getting it done at 80. Day 3, My granddaughter Rylee's first fishing trip with grandpa And her first crappie! My goals for 2016 are to spend as much time on the water as possible and if I can just have another 3 days as special as last year it will be another fantastic year.

I would like to say kayak fishing falls at the top of my upcoming goals list, but not at the very top.
I'll definitely fish more this year and hopefully finally get some of the video I have already in the can edited and published.
I hope to build back my stable of Hobies to a full house again..... and keep them wet all year long.
I am actively looking for a patch of sand near the salt to at least keep my RV on now, build on later and might even run some of the salt tournaments this year.
I am very hopeful that before the year is over I'll boat(YAK) my first Halibut and Salmon in Alaska.
And with a LOT of luck I'll finally master the Tango.
Keep on dreamin' , Phill

My son is about to turn two, and I am looking forward to getting him water-ready. This next year will be about formative experience for him in the outdoors. He is already well on his way (very close to swimming and he has been pond fishing with me several times already). Also, he loves fish (but admittedly, he loves dinosaurs more). I am shutting down my blog, Up Down Bass, this next year and turning it into a book. More about this later. I have been writing for Bass Pro Shops this year ( example here) and I hope to increase my output through that channel in 2016. Finally, I am hoping that 2016 will be the year that I get into video. Sometime in the next few years, I plan to hit video hard. In fact, I may transition to video entirely.

With 2015 coming to a end, some of us are already thinking about 2016. What are your fishing goals and priorities for 2016 and how was your 2015? I feel your pain with regard to lake levels and scheduling getting in the way of fishing this past year. January - March were good for me, but after that my fishing opportunities definitely went on a downward spiral. But you should feel blessed ... the three memories you mentioned can make up for a lot of time sitting at home rearranging tackle or respooling reels. So my main goal this year is simple ... more time on the water and more time on the water sharing with good friends. My secondary goal woiuld be to make the Pelican Top 3 List for 2016! Here's wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a memorable 2016 on the water!!!
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

It was a great year for me. The highlight was that fish I caught with Deric, also some good times night fishing in the summer. I hope my timings line up better this year and I stay healthy. I really hope the frog bite is in this year after all the rains we have had.
But really a few good trips for the company, the fish, and photography/video opportunities and I'll be golden

Man my 2015 was a tough one. Never did outsmart these stupid hippie california bass. One of the kids here at work is nailing double digit fish everyweekend.
Goals for 2016, get my hands on some dinomyte and show these california fish a thing or 2. lol Seriously though I would love to get some fishing done. Did not get out enough this year at all. And get another kayak so I can get my daughter out and not have to listen to my sons whining about "his" kayak getting used by his sister.

With two floods my gar fishing was pretty much non existent this year. Even fishing the upper gulf coast was fairly slow. Hopefully in 2016 both areas will be ripe! Also I'm planning to head a little further south down the coast and broaden my target species to kings and cobia. What would really tickle me is if I could make the sailfish smack down in Pompano, FL in Jan.

What a great post, and question. First and foremost, I want to become a better fisherman this year, slowing down and studying the art of fishing more than I have in the past (which is to say not much).
Secondly, I hope to step outside my comfort zone and push the kayak fishing envelop a little. The Brazos is such a great river that its easy to be lulled into not venturing much beyond its banks. I hope to change that this year, to include a heavier presence in kayak fishing tournaments.
Lastly, I plan to return to the lower Pecos in 2016 to finish what we started in 2014--float the entire 60-mile span between Pandale and the Hwy 90 bridge. We got flooded out at Mile 37 and pretty much had to start over as kayak fishermen. Time to finish that paddle and get on with my life.
