I am looking for an inexpensive solution to keep my feet warm and dry during the cold months. I have a pedal yak, which keeps me really dry while fishing. However, there are rare occasions when I must wade in shallow water to launch. I don't have a need for waders, I just need to keep my feet/lower legs dry. Rubber boots don't really appeal to me. Waterproof socks seem to be a good solution. Anyone using them?

Not sure it this will qualify for your inexpensive requirement... I use NRS Titanium kayak boots. I found them on sale for $30 at REI a couple years ago. They are dry, warm and comfortable. They have been on at least 100 kayak trips and still holding up well. I use the pressure washer to keep them clean.

Those boots look good. I have some neoprene boots, but they are not dry. I may give these a try. Thanks

My wife has a pair of the NRS that she loves and I am thinking of getting some myself.

I use a pair of water proof socks and wear sandals over them. They fit high over the calf and I just roll up my pant leg or even tuck them into the sock, and it works great and you stay dry and warm. The boots work good also but are a little too bulky for me unless you plan to to a lot of wading or walking on slick rocks then they are ideal.

I have a pedal yak and like the idea of socks so I can wear shoes that are comfortable for me while pedaling. Do you remember the name brand and where you got them? There are many to choose from online, but it would be nice to go with something that is recommended first-hand. Thanks

Thanks I bought mine a couple years ago online from Austin Canoe and Kayak (ACK) and they had about three different styles to choose from and I chose the tallest sock they offered. I noticed on their website though that they only show one style and brand. You might give them a call/email and find out what they have.

A pair of waterproof socks and shoes don't sound warm to me when it's cold.

They are real inexpensive but I have the NRS Boundary and they are nice and warm. They keep your feet and lower legs dry and are a good investment and will last for years. http://www.nrs.com/product/2308/nrs-boundary-shoeThey are a good investment and will last for years.

I checked my decade old SealSkinz socks and they were coming apart so I threw them in the trash. They served their purpose. The reviews on the NRS Boundary Shoe are unbelievable so I ordered a pair. I own other NRS gear and it always rocks.

I use a combo approach in the winter. First layer of UA ski socks. They're really thin, a little thinner than gym socks. Then NRS Hanz, they go up mid calf. This system is thin enough to wear any shoe that I want.
This is a very tall order. We need the best. Get me MacGruber.

Those are the ones the wife has and though they are a bit bulky she gets in and out of her very narrow (22") sit inside with them without issue because they flex.

I've got the NRS Boundary boots. I wear a pair of long wool socks under them. Keeps my feet warm and avoids that wet clammy feeling.
