There are several good reasons for using a circle hook, but in my mind, I think they excell due to their compact profile. With a wacky rig, you basically have your hook entirely exposed. A smaller profile hook will (hopefully) have a better chance of steering clear of any snags. Additionally, a smaller hook is more difficult for the fish to see (this tends to be a controversial topic, but in clear water I think most anglers will agree that it is an important thing to consider).

For the record, I too use the Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap hooks.

Another reason to use circle hooks for wacky style fishing is because the bite is often undetected and they just move off with the bait and you oftentimes do not know they are on. With a circle style hook the fish will then hook themselves and you will not need to SET THE HOOK. This works very well with inexperienced new anglers or old folks LIKE ME that can't figure out what just happened and how I missed that bite when my line has moved 50 yards when I am eating my Cheese Cracker and Soda Pop!! roflmao

LOL Ron......I've missed bites too cuz of my cheese crackers, bacon biscuit, snickers, coke, ham sandwich, M&Ms, you get the idea.

I like the Gamakatsu Wicked Wacky Hook's as well......makes up for a lot of my mistakes.

Oh yea....one more safety tip....garlic spray DOES NOT taste like garlic...don't ask please!
