Wife gave me a pass for a few hours tomorrow morning, so I decided I would put a challenge in play with two popular punch baits:
CJ's Shad Punch Bait Danny Kings Blood Punch Bait
Going to fish a nearby creek where I regularly catch channels and going to tally which one the kitty's prefer for breakfast...at least on that particular day. Odds are fair, as I have two new cans of each and have each pole rigged exactly the same for even playing field.
Bets on who the victor shall be anyone??? I will post results later that afternoon or mid day.

I went out with Kerry Murphey yesterday using his bait and man I never thought you could catch a catfish that size using a punch bait. That's me in the picture above that Kerry posted on Ray Hubbard. Give him a call if you want to catch some catfish on Hubbard.

The results are in...... Caught 5 total and fished from 7am - 9am.
CJ's Shad Punch Bait: 4 (3 channels and 1 blue) Danny Kings Blood Punch Bait: 1 (1 blue)
This was simply a fun test, as I was at Academy Sports and have read good things on both baits before, but never have really used punch bait before, so I thought...let's have a little fun and test them both out. I normally use chicken livers. The first fish caught was about a 6-8 lb blue cat that nailed the bait literally seconds after hitting the water.
All in all it was a good time, as is anytime you are able to enjoy the great outdoors!

You will have to start early to out fish CJs any day of the week. I have fished them all. CJs is as good as it gets to this day and time.

My homemade bacon grease bait has consistently out caught both CJ's and BK's by 3 and 4 to one. Same thing using Chemdawg's Garlic. Bill's sponge bait also out fishes them as well.

I've done the Pepsi challenge with sure shot and Sureshot out performed everything, every time. A friend of mine (he's on here but doesn't post much) is an airboat guide on the Red River and he put a 35 and a 41 in the boat week before last on Sureshot. Unbelievable.

I tell you what man-- I've been fishing almost 2 years now (addicted!!) and I never believed in punch bait. I've tried Stubby's (once and no luck so I won't judge this as I hear amazing results), CJ's Crawfish and Shad flavors, and that PREMO dip bait-- I have never once caught cats on that stuff until I had purchased Danny Kings BLOOD flavored bait-- STUFF ROCKS! Never catfish without it!! I've only fished boat from Decker and it worked there (1st time I've caught on punch bait) -- rest of the times i've fished have been lago vista, marble falls, lake tejas, bastrop, granger, buchanan, georgetown-- other small areas around austin as well-- but every single time, it's been danny kings blood-- havn't had luck with garlic-
Hope this helps!

I've fished for catfish ever since I was little kid. I got big into catfishing about 7 yrs ago and have fished almost every weekend since. All I wanted to do was catch as many catfish as I could didn't matter what the size. I purchased almost every punch/dip bait you could think of. Big Marvs,Cjs,Secret7,Bill Rogers,Danny King,SureShot,Sonnys you name it. I caught fish on all of them.
I've got to the point where I don't care much about catching a limit of fish, I just want to catch the biggest one in the lake,so I use shad, carp, buff, perch mostly now. I still use punch bait every once in a while. I always keep Sureshot at the house. To me its the best punchbait I've ever used. Sureshot will catch big blues,if I didn't have any cutbait its the bait I would use. Cjs would come in second.

Biggest difference is whether you found the fish or not, side by side tests notwithstanding. I don't think there are many baits that won't catch fish if you dangle it in front of their face...well there's those green baby shad in a bag...

Locating the fish is certainly key. I think that in general most punch baits will catch fish, some more than others at times. One thing is for sure though....The smell from CJ's is much harder to get off your fingers than Danny Kings. : )
I am going to order some of Stubby's cheese bait and go for round two soon, for the punch bait vs cheese bait showdown. Looking forward to another reason to tell the wife why I "need" to go fishin'!

Toothpaste will take that smell off.
