I would think it is but what lake are you fishing? I've not found any eggs on crappie yet.

Usually all the crappie i catch during the winter creek run have eggs already. So that means the run is not to far away

I noticed a few fat girls having eggs in them from Lewisville also.
I've literally never caught a crappie in the month of October before this year, so I couldn't tell you if it is out of the ordinary or not.

There are a lot of big females on area lakes with eggs in thier belly right now. It's that time of year! Fish start spawning in February, depending on the lake, and will continue until June. Again, depending on the lake. GV spawn is usually later than most area lakes (Apr/May). But Eggs develop for a long time. The water temp needs to drop 30 degrees then climb 20 degrees for them to spawn! Unless you believe in Fall Spawn....

Depending on the lake, you should start seeing eggs in crappie anytime after August.
