I live in between the two and have been fishing Hubbard because it was the only one of the two open for a while. I've been doing pretty decent there. I haven't tried Lavon yet, but I have read Tarponfly's post on Lavon.
Which lake do you think is better to fish? Why?

Depends on time of year and what you are fishing for. I prefer Crappie so Lavon is my choice.

TPWD shows catfish and hybrid as excellent on Hubbard and crappie and sunfish as excellent on Lavon.
Sandies are better on Lavon? I have been catching mostly whites with a few hybrids mixed in on Hubbard.

Hubbard is closer to me but I will always choose Lavon over Hubbard when it comes to fishing.

Grainraiser - why? More confidence there? Less boats? Better quality or more fish?

Depends on what you want. Hubbard has the hybrids, sandbass I would say similar, Lavon supposedly has better crappie. I'm not much of a catfish guy so couldn't tell you. I prefer Lavon because I don't have to deal with as many idiots, jet fleas, and party boaters. There are more quality ramps (assuming enough water) for a lower cost as well on Lavon. At the end of the day for me it's about enjoyment, not necessarily the quality of the fishery, and Hubbard is more likely to get me all stressed out/PO'd.
