I've got a 91 champion with a 1991 Yamaha 150 pro-v it's been a great rig for a few years and the only maintenence that it's needed have been new plugs. I took it out on Conroe the other day and it ran good to the first few holes then I ran back to the marina to pick up a friend and when we went to make a run back to another hole it wouldn't plane out. Even when stuck to the floor it wouldmy budge.I don't have an rpm gage but I could tell it wasn't getting very good rpms. My guess is that my carbs are clogged. Can anyone throw their opinions my way?

Unless you got to the bottom of the tank and it just sucked in some trash I would suspect something electrical rather than carbs. Normally on my Merc I will get some kind of warning (i.e. surging) if it is carbs. My off the wall guess is power pack or stator.

The fuel pickup is always on the bottom of the tank, it doesn't float on top.
Fuel pump or carbs is my guess.

Check to make sure throttle is working right. Something interfering with the hot foot, cable messed up or throttle follower backed off.

make sure it isnt running hot or not getting oil and going into limp in mode.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Fuel pump or carbs is my guess. BF on my part. I don't think this motor has a limp mode but not familiar with yammies. OP keep us posted. Like to hear how this one turns out. No tach on a 150?

A carb flooding will cause it to bog when you hit the throttle. I had a seat back out once but mine would hardly even idle when that happened. Might pull the airbox cover and pump the primer bulb hard and see if gas pores out or more of the throats. I also had a bad set of needle and seats right out of the package once. It drove me and my mechanic crazy trying to figure it out. I even called the Merc technical line. I got the instructor up in Richardson. I told my mechanic what he said and my mechanic laughed. They said they went to school together and had races rebuilding lowers. The tech said that Merc float settings are touchy and they should be wet set. I have never had a problem setting the floats. This brings up something else and that is if you have the plastic floats you might have a pinhole. This will cause the float to sink and the carb will flood.

Just get a fuel sample in a clear jar and let it sit. If it seperates at all you got water. It will probably have water in the bowls if it's in the tank.

check spark and compression first thing if those check out then it is a fuel issue you are probably going to find that you have no spark on one or more cylinders

You might want to look at the magnets inside the flywheel. They become loose and then bunch up as the engine is used. Sometimes they space themselves out and the engine runs fine. then they bunch up and the engine runs like [censored]. Just my 2 cents.... good luck!
