I just got a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI installed. I wanted to know do I need a certain map card for this or the insight genesis have a specific map card I would need. I'm looking for something that can get the job done and not spend a fortune. As far as on insight genesis am I able to enter GPS coordinates on the site, save them, then transfer those to the card, enter the card into the Lowrance and them be saved on there. I'm new to all this stuff but wanted to use the upgraded maps that show where timber, creek channels, road beds are in these lakes, right now I just see depths and contours.

I don't know much about insight genesis but the contour detail on my HDS-10 Gen 2 is not as good as the detail on my Navionics card for the NTX lakes I fish. I have an older Navionics card (2008 maybe) and its shows timber, creek channels and road beds. I can't save anything on the card, I use a separate SD card to store my waypoints, etc.

Are you running a chip now? The newer Navionics chips can also show Timber but just turning on the Seabed layer. Notice the red dots the the far right...that is Timber, also below you can see how the depth highlight will show different colors for depths. LEt me know if you have any questions, be glad to help you out.

I don't have a card right now.

Pretty sure the red dots are where you have the shallow water highlight. Not timber. At least that's how mine is.
