I got a hds 7 gen 3. just the basic 83/200 transducer for now and it is setup on my pontoon boat. I got the unit mounted last week and the transducer ran and mounted today, wasn't much fun with the boat in the slip at the marina but I took a swim and got it done. Any tips or tricks on getting the settings in the best place and general use of this thing will be really appreciated. Going to read the book on it tonight to get a idea also.

Thanks

Walter

You will probably get good results just letting it be on auto. You can fine tune you settings on the water. Be sure to take the manual with you and read it 2 or 3 times to get familiar with everything.

I have a HDS 7 gen 3 myself and love it. If you really want to get the most out of this unit you need the 455/800 khz transducer. The 83/200 works fine but the 455/800 with side scan\down scan is awesome.

the 455/800 is the lss2? I am planning on getting it, but for right now have to do without. My dad found me a good deal on a gen 2 and bought it but it didn't work so I took it back to cabelas and it cost me 250 to get into a new gen 3. After buying a used pontoon boat and a bunch of rods and reels and gear to go after some catfish, I am done buying for now...

Thanks

Walter

Set the color palette to #13. You will see better color separation of targets.

Yep pallet 13 or 14 for fish separation and the other pallets for bottom hardness. If you get the downscan you can do overlay which will give you even more separation. thumb
