I use the traditional C-Rig setup, even though I probably break off more than using the keepers. I'm also using Carolina rigs whenever I'm fishing in more than a few feet of water and not in heavy cover. I used to be T-Rig all the time, which is the way I was taught as a youngster, but I much prefer the action of the C-Rig now, and it is a setup that is effective in a lot of situations. However, I don't believe in the shortcut rigs because I think bass are less aware of a sinker where the line can flow freely through than one that is "captured" like in a pre-rigged setup.

I throw a c-rig a LOT and can't tell you how many times I have broken one off in the last 30 minutes of a tournament when we are desperately trying to cull or catch just one more fish. I started pre-tying leaders now and it helps a ton. You simply tie a hook with your leader line to a swivel. I tie both short (24"-36") and long (48"+) ones and put them in individual marked zip lock bags. Doing this, allows me to simply take out the weight size and bead I want to use then just tie the one knot which saves a ton of time on the boat.
And BTW - I also started out using those pre-made brass ones and they SUCK. They get hung up on everything.

Pre mades are junk and they're lazy. Good rule for bass fishing - don't use junk and don't cut corners. There's ALWAYS a downside.

Yep Best way to do it imo, I usually tie a dozen or more and have them ready to go. When you break off just grab your hardware and leader and one knot and your ready to go. I have a c rig tied on year around not real sure I could go fishing without one. I vary weights and leader length throughout the year depending on depth I'm fishing. It's actually a good set up for the spawn for me probably the most productive when the water is to dirty to see the fish. I'll use a 3/8th weight and 12"-18" leader for the spawn. When the fish move out deeper I personally like a 3/4 oz and start with a 36" leader and let the fish tell me if it needs to be adjusted from there.

If not, must have been Jason Conklin.

Chris, give the keepers a try. c-rig is one of my favorite things to throw, especially when I'm coangling. use 2 for any weight above 1/2 oz, I use 1.25 oz weights and they never slide down with 2 unless hung. single knot to tie and only one point of failure vs. 3 with traditional. also that single knot with keepers on the hook is always the least vulnerable point anyway because floating up. I still put a couple beads above the keepers for noise. Also easy to adjust the length on the fly. Because I use such a heavy weight, I prefer 15 or 17 lb Invizix. I think if everyone tried the keepers they would never go back.

The pre rigged seem to hang more than the hand tied. I use either a barrel style or tube style weight. One of my go to baits!

You can pre tie the hook and swivel and just tie on with beads and weight when using. I don't like keepers, except on t rigs

Never been a fan of the Crig because of the mass amounts of knot tying. I have even made leaders up before but it still is a pain because I always seem to make my leaders longer than I want. I am going to have to pick up some of the keepers and try it out. I think I will throw the technique much more if I can adjust my leader length on the fly!

I think you'll like it Jeff, I use to get so frustrated with tying 3 knots and always breaking. It is so easy now I throw the c-rig much more. every time I caught more than pro on tour it was with a c-rig.

I always find it hard to put my drop shot down when the fishing is tough though. Time and time again it is a proven technique for me!
