Ok guys so this Tuesday I purchased the new Shimano stradic FK on Ebay from a trusted seller who guarantees 100% authenticity. Well I received it today, (took only 4 days to get here from Japan). It was well packed took it out of the box and it looked and felt like the nicest, smoothest stradic I've ever felt I mean it feels high quality. After spinning the handle a few times I put the reel back in the box and went on with my busy day, just about 30 minutes ago I took it out of the box to play with it again only to notice something very strange...the box says stradic HGS which is supposed to be a 6.0:1 gear ratio with a mono capacity of 140yds of 8lb test, however on the reels spool I notice it says stradic 2500S (5.0:1) NOT HGS and it reads 115yds of 4lb test! Hmmmm!....so I pull up Shimano's official website and discover that they offer 5 models total non of which use the S or HGS terminology, 1000FK thru 5000FK is how its stated. So I'm about to contact the seller and find out what the deal is. Thoughts?

Does anyone think I may have gotten a FAKE despite the reel feeling super smooth and looking perfect? is there a such thing as a 2500S or 2500HGS?? If so I have yet to find one on the web.

Lol in all honesty it's probably a very superior quality reel. Even if it is the wrong spool. Nice catch.

It's confusing though because the way it is listed shows the HGS to be 6.0:1 gear ratio with a 140yd capacity of 8lb mono yet the box says 115yds of 4lb mono? But all the other specs are accurate. I received the S model in the HGS box.

4 days from Japan should have been the 1st light bulb that went off in your head. Customs is not that fast.

Actually the expected delivery date was between the 23rd and 29th so it's not like it was a guaranteed 4 days. Like I said the reel looks and feels flawless it just got put in the wrong box during inspection is what I'm thinking.

You have a JDM shallow spool Stradic. The H designation is for the high speed version, the S of course means shallow spool. Why they don't sell shallow spooled spinning reels here in the US is beyond me. The 2500HGS and 2500S will have the same S spool, but the HGS reel will have the 6:1 retrieve as opposed to the 5:1 on the 2500S model. Fill it with 10 or 15lb braid with a 4-6' fluoro leader and you're in business! Getting the reel in 4 days is quick, but not that unusual. I have ordered two JDM reels this year and one took 5 days to receive, the other took 7 days with an apology from the store that they had to get one from a different warehouse. BTW, if you were wanting the standard 2500 deep spooled version, it is not available in the JDM. IMO, the shallow spool is the way to go anyway.

I buy a tremendous amount of stuff from Japan. Mainly lures, but what I have found out is that a lot of times, you may be ordering from Japan but they have a warehouse in the US, most often California. Your order is processed through Japan but it actually shipped from California where it has already cleared customs. I have gotten many things that were supposed to be coming from Japan in 3-4 days. Also have had to wait as long as 30 days to get some things.

JDM is typically better quality in reels... sad to say
