 going to fish Galveston for the first time

I'm going to fish Galveston for the first time. I'm staying pretty much on the very end of the island and am looking forward to finding some good fishing. I'm bringing my boat but have never had it in salt water before. I'm curious how people are fishing the jetties and what they are catching. I'm looking for reds but will be happy with just catching some fish. any info will be great thank you

I just got back and just fished off 1 of the beach front piers. A few reds were caught with a lot of croaker, sand trout, black tip and bonnethead sharks.

Great. I'm looking forward to my trip. I did hire a guide for a jetty trip but am looking forward to fishing the piers or surf also. Thanks
