i have had and worked on my Toyota vehicles my entire driving life (5 x MR2, Taco, Camry, and Landcruiser) and all of them were used and still never had major issues except my little toy race car i abuse (MR2), the funny thing is i have never sold any of my yotas for less than what i paid for them because nothing beats the resell value of a yota. Now as for my current tow truck which is a Ram 1 ton 2wd which gets consistently 16 mpg city/20 hwy hand calculated, i will start by saying how much i love Cummins and New Venture but i HATE Dodge... people at stealership suck, parts are expensive, parts are [censored] especially anything plastic, over all just crappy engineering all around. Before you Mopar lovers flame me, if you have had a ram; how many suspension components, TIPM problems, crackd dash/plastic parts, A/C, and other wiring issues have you had?! Wont even get into the auto trans cause i only drive standards but again i do love my truck cause she always starts and drives and pulls my little tracker with no problems.

I have a 2008 Ram 2500 4WD Mega Cab and I have had no problems with any of the areas you name. 146 K on it. The 2008 3/4 ton and up Rams have Aisin Trannys for automatics and they are the best truck automatic on the market. More Asins in heavy duty trucks than any other automatic, including allison. I do not have my work done by a dealership. I have a great mechanic shop that treats me fair. The only problems I have had is with the sun roof and AC Unit. The Sun Roof drain vents get plugged and when that happens I have water come through the sun visor clips. The AC Unit has a freon leak that is probably going to be a bit expensive to fix, but it is in the shop right now getting fixed. If I could, I would put the Cummins/Aisin Drive Train including 4WD unit, in an F-250 and probably would have the best truck on the road.

I love jeeps but I had so many problems with that Jeep I couldn't get rid of it soon enough. And it was a bit of a struggle towing my Triton 186.

Traded it in for a 2014 Toyota Tundra, the big one. I love this truck, pulls the boat like it's not even back there and the customer service is amazing. Bumper to bumper coverage,
100k miles, LIFETIME power trane warranty from Toyota.
I have yet to pay for an oil change and they have free assistance. Meaning if you get stuck anywhere in the continental US and they can find you, they send someone to help you.
Stuck in the mud, run out of gas, have a blow out, whatever. As long as you have a cell
Signal and they can find you, they are sending someone. No charge. It's part of the deal
With Toyota.

I'm no salesman or have any affiliation with any of them, and like I said I have had a jeep forever and I love them but mine was a lemon, the dealership was trash ( Clay Cooley in Irving) and the Toyota experience has been amazing

I had a 2004, 4 door Tacoma that I had almost 200k miles on and never had an issue with it, I traded it in for that 2012 wrangler and that was a huge mistake.

Shop me fist, Shop me last, either way, come see Clay! bang

One of my many frustrations. Clay Cooley bought out the previous dealership. Then when I was having so many issues they pulled the, you didn't buy it from us card.

I said I bought the damn thing right here, some of the same vehicles are in the parking lot and it's a Chrysler product. It was the biggest pain in the [censored] and I hate everything about them now.
clay Cooley is the WORST chain of dealers in DFW! I deal work with dealers all the time in my line of work. The guy, clay Cooley, is about 5'2" tall. Little weasel. Lol. And his mgrs are are trained to screw everyone for every penny they can get.

That said, I think we've talked about your jeep experience. I know the '12's were issue prone. I know exactly what was wrong with yours. I also know exactly what the string of "put offs" that Chrysler corp had dealerships being told to do....to buy time. The entire 2012 run of 3.6L Pentastar motors had cylinder heads on the driver's side that were cast incorrectly. This caused VERY rapid wear of lifter bores. Now imagine the several hundred thousand 2012 3.6 motors, that were used in everything from chargers, challengers, 300's, 200's, ram trucks, mini vans, Jeep SUV's, etc. all throwing P020 codes with in 5-10k miles from new. There was no way for dealerships to warranty everything in a timely manner. Wasn't happening. So, they just kissed off every owner of a 3.6 powered vehicle that was purchased in 2012. They would say,"computer reflash", "new lifters", "bad oil filter", whatever. Knowing that it had to at best case have a new cylinder head. I, knowing the dealerships from business, had a 2013 motor installed in mine right from the first "P020, cylinder 2 misfire".

But, knowing what was going on behind the scenes, AND THAT YOU WERE DEALING WITH COOLEY!!!! You did the right thing. Trade it in. And bash jeep. Haha. It's what I did with my Ford Lightning and Doug Stanley. Lol

The Toyota truck you have is really nice. A good friend of mine uses his to tow his matching Nitro. They are great trucks. I really like the little things on them. Like the adjustable headlights. Very cool feature for towing and launching a boat. You will like it. Hell, we have two other vehicles, Lexus, made by Toyota. Very well made vehicles and beyond dependable. They simply do not ever break.

You hit the nail on the head.

My first issue came at around 22K miles, Check engine light came on. I took it to Pep Boys first to get the codes, then to the dealership. The dealership kept it for a day, called me back and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. So then I told them, well Pep Boys found these codes in about 5 mins... They checked it again, called me back and said yea the left cylinder head is damaged, and will need to be replaced, it will take us about a week.

After that ordeal, which was in the early Summer, I noticed the heater not working real well by the time the winter rolled around, I dealt with it because it hadn't got really cold yet. I took it in December, they looked at it, said someone that did the maintenance on it had put the wrong anti freeze in it and it clogged up the entire cooling system including the heater core, so it all had to be replaced and its like a $4k job. Not covered under warranty because I now had $37k miles on it.

I was livid, fought and argued, finally got them to do it and I ended up paying $300 of the cost, later I found out that when they replaced the cylinder head in the summer, they replaced all the fluids of course, but Chrysler had a bad batch of anti freeze that was gumming up coolant systems. I was so pissed I called Chrysler but kept going no where.

A few months after that, I got in it to leave work, the check engine light came on. I went by Pep Boys, they said the code showed an issue with the oil pump or something. I drove straight to the Toyota dealership and got rid of it that day.

Chrysler and Clay Cooley are the sorriest bunch of people that you could ever imagine dealing with. I know this thread isn't about all this, but I tell everyone that I know about my experience. I take care of my vehicles, I love Jeeps, but that drove me away from them. The experience with Toyota has been first class all the way, they treat you right, keep their word, and are not worried just about making a sale.

We ran a large survey for Oakley Big Bass (1400 anglers) over the weekend and here's the results. Interesting to see how Texas fairs against the data from the midwest and southeast which is what our OBBT data consists of.

Chevy 36%
Ford 28%
Dodge 12%
Toyota 12%
GMC 8%
Nissan 3%
Other 1%

The results from our Honey Hole viewership Survey (990 anglers) back in January were: Honey Hole has a large Texas viewer based as expected.

Ford 32%
Chevy 30%
Dodge 14%
Toyota 10%
GMC 9%
Nissan 3%
Other 2%

Im with you Kingwood, would love a Fummins and the only thing i would change is i would use the old 12 valve over my HPCR or even the 6.7. my dream truck would either be an old Toyota solid front axle with a 4bt or Hummer H1 with a 5.9 but dont have the welding skills to do so yet.

2003 Dodge 2500 w/Hemi
Only owner, synthetic oil from day one and best oil filter money can buy.
244,000 miles never done a tune up, only replaced the A/C fan, right wheel bearing assembly..
It can still burn the tires off if I wish to do so.
However I am in the Market for a new one, I'l give ol trigger to my son.
I am going back with Ram and the hemi power plant, best dam motor I've ever run.
Amen...

2008 Tundra owner here. 105k miles on it and still runs like a beast. That thing still amazes me how much power it has. I love it.

My Dad bought a 2012 Dodge ram and was bragging how much power it has and how fast it gets up. He only has about 25k miles on it now. I told him my Tundra would smoke him. We argue about it all the time. Good thing he lives in CA or we would have settled this already on a back country road.

We got a fifth wheel a couple of years ago so now my tow vehicle is asked to do a lot more than before. I still have a 1/2 ton daily driver and just use a diesel for towing the fifth wheel. My new tow vehicle will be a 3/4 ton diesel so that I can eliminate one truck.

Towing with a half ton gas (5.3L V8 Chevy) and towing with a 3/4 ton diesel (5.9L 6 cylinder Dodge) are two different animals. My bass boat is on the heavier side so my half ton does it but it isn't happy about going fast and steep hills. The diesel doesn't bat an eye.

2011 Tundra w/ 120k miles...no issues. Get 14.7 towing boat with four people in truck. Interested to see what the new F-150 gets, or if the aluminum body is marketing hype.
