Just got a used fish n dive. I need to repair all of the things to hooks stuff on. I heard that I need to remove everything then fill it with silicone then drill the new bolts back in. Also there is a lot of paint that I want to remove. Is there a good solvent for that? The last thing is there are a few rough scratches. I would like to patch those scratches just in case. The kayak dose not leak but I would like to patch it up. Please help me out with some tips. Thank you.

I would not use JB weld on a kayak. The plastic is flexible and JB weld is not. Also it will not bond very well to the plastic. Look up Kayak welding repair on Youtube. All you need is some plastic you can pick up from a kayak shop where they install the hatches and such and a soldering iron. You can melt the plastic into the holes and then re drill them. I would find a small area and try some solvent on the paint and see what it does first. Scratches won't hurt a thing unless they are really deep, but as long as it's not leaking I would leave them alone.

Should I use a patch for the deep cuts. I see they sell some like adhesive but its really expensive. Patching it would be stronger and cheaper I think. I have all the tools and looked up some videos to repair those deeps cuts. I also need to replace all of the eyelets on the kayak and add two rod holders. Tough job. Any tips?

There is also like a netting looking thing that you find on windows to keep bugs out. You use that then melt the plastic on top. I just want a dependable kayak. The kayak itself is pretty beat up on the bottom but like no holes or cracks.

Actually JB weld or any epoxy will work with polyethylene plastics if you scuff the surface with 60 grit. I bonded a PVC exit valve on the side of a 5 gallon bucket with epoxy and it has held for quite some time now.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

Home depot has that screen wire for windows. It's soft and plyable so you can cut a square of it and melt the plastic to encase the screen. It will help to reinforce your weld. I would practice it first and try not to work too large an area at a time. Again JB weld is a bad idea. It may work on a five gallong bucket but it won't be a permanent fix on a kayak. You can try it, but melting plastic into the holes is much more of a permanent fix. If you want to go the JB weld route go ahead, but I've tried it before and it's not the best way and that is from what I've experienced. YMMV!

Contact the maker of the kayak and ask for some plastic. Use a heat gun and weld plastic into spot you want it. Both pieces of plastic must be heated up. Easy process but you should practice before attempting on yak
No JB weld
