So I've been planning to go fishing for quite some time now; along with my dad and brother. And we've decided to not let the rain get in our way of this so were going through with our plan to visit a lake on Sunday and we will be expecting maybe some showers? (Thunderstorms are a no)
With that in mind, Anyone have any advice or tips you could give me on the subject of Fishing in the rain? anything from past experiences or maybe some equipment that would come in handy with rain protection?
I also want to know if anyone is planning on fishing sunday as well? Is your weather forecast looking promising? we would like to go somewhere within 30 miles of Lake Highlands, Texas (DFW)
Would really appreciate the help!

We all have been caught in an upper level disturbance while fishing. Most fishermen will either stay home or get off the water because it is going to be a miserable day and the bite seems to just shut down. Actually the exact opposite is happening. The huge Bass are not on a feeding pattern. They are grouping together and being just absolutely aggressive. I throw a Halloween spinner bait that I spent years tweaking so it will catch the big Bass that are so active during inclement weather. For years I could not fish any bait that the big Bass would literally kill under stormy conditions. I have finely got it right and it is my best go to bait in the box. Big bass are not just everywhere in the lake. With the high waters and so much cover go up several of the major creeks and near the back look for small points with the most cover on them. Hardwoods will be the best spots leading out to the creek channel. The creek will also give you guys some protection from the storms and wind. I try to clip up and fan fish this thick cover giving it just a few minutes then move up and repeat. If they are there you will know it immediately. If not move quickly to your next small point in the creek. Every lake I fish this is the first thing I do, find a few spots to work the spinner bait during stormy weather. Over the years it has payed off big time. My first huge stringer was 10 bass in one hour for 62 lbs. back in 1972. Many other big stringer have been caught over the years in rain, thunder, lighting, snow, and sleet storms. Big Bass hate orange under these conditions.

Thank you for the insight! really thought i would have to go out this evening without any knowledge of this. Question though, Which creeks around this area (DFW) would you recommend we visit? I only know of white rock creek.

When I was younger the rain didn't bother me that much. If I heard thunder or lightning I came off the water. Been caught a few time when I should have gotten of faster. Now I'm a fair weather fisherman.

I try to look at the maps and figure the last creeks that were accessible when the lake was down. Those are the first ones they will move into. Go all the way back until the water depth is 8 to 10 ft. in the middle of the creek, then start looking those little points over and pick some out to try when the weather turns bad on your next trip. I keep working at it until I have a good creek on each end of the lake to run to quickly.
It took a long time to find the right spots on Falcon, Amistad and Ivie. Those are the only lakes I have concentrated on all these years. Now the work is done. If I am on one of those lakes I know exactly where they will congregate in a creek on each end of all three lakes and have caught many big bass off of those spots during all kind of bad weather; snow, rain, thunder, lighting, sleet and hale storms. All of them on the orange spinner bait.

Fished Athens all day yesterday. During the worst of the rain I was getting bit like crazy sometimes on 3-4 cast in a row. Rain stopped couldn't pay a bass to hit my lures.
