Diesel outperforms gas in torque and fuel consumption in all other applications but my concern would be cold weather use. They don't like cold weather.

The diesel engine is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel that has been injected into the combustion chamber is initiated by the high temperature which a gas achieves when greatly compressed. This contrasts with spark-ignition engines such as a petrol engine or gas engine, which use a spark plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture. I do not see this as anything other than a motor designed to operate on bad gas. Military has always had motors that can operate on several different fuels.

Gary is correct. Mercury has been building them for years for the Military. Especially the Navy.

Its built exclusively for the military. Its built to be able to use odd fuels. It HAS spark plugs.
Its not an engine anyone would be buying for a recreational craft. Its mission is not to compete, just to operate on different fuels. I think it will do it but not as well as a gasser, be it 2 or 4 stroke.

Wonder if it requires Def fluid and how the exhaust system is done. With the regulations put on deisil trucks and semi's, might be the reason it's only available for the dod.

Only "Odd" if your not in the military. Thought the directive was all engines should be able to run on JP8 and/or 5, which would include many diesel engines. Wonder what the EPA will do to a commercial diesel outboard.
