A lot of ramps are closed due to the recent rains, do these closures apply to kayak who launches at the ramp or just for power boats?

You can launch there, just don't move any barriers that have the ramp blocked off. I would launch off to the side of the ramp just so you can say you didn't use the ramp

I used a closed ramp at Grapevine to load up one night. Both a park ranger and GV police a couple minutes apart saw me backed up to the barrier and rushed over. When they could see I had a kayak, they asked how fishing was, said sorry we thought you had a boat and drove off. That won't be the same everywhere so like spiderJig said. Don't move the barrier and if all possible set off to the side.

^^^ what he said. Problem with launching a kayak from a closed boat ramp is people see and they think they will get away with it too. Someone with a 10 foot boat will then try, then a 14 ft jon, next thing you know people with full size boats will be trying to launch. Best to just obey the law and set an example for others

As long as you don't try to drive past the barriers they shouldn't have a problem with it. With a kayak, you can park in the parking area and using a kart you can load up and transport your kayak down to the water without a problem. Just don't drive around any barracaids to get closer to the water to unload and everything will be good as long as you park where it's legal.

I moved the barriers at West Juniper point on Texoma all last year and no one said a word. I think once they see you are not trying to launch a conventional boat they are OK with it as long as you put them back.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I also found this to be true at Mustang Park on Lake Benbrook earlier this year. One of the attendants at a nearby fee station said it was ok to move the barricade at the closed ramp to back down there to unload but to just put the barrier back when I was done. Just past the fee station there was another usable boat ramp so they didn't have to worry about scofflaw boaters trying to launch at the closed one.
