hope crappie fishermen on aren't as tight lipped as the bass guys. friends are coming to rayburn this weekend and want to catch a mess of crappie to take home. now i'm not asking for your honey hole just would like to know if they are shallow or are they in the brush piles. they plan on renting a pontoon boat from twin dikes. so any advice would be welcome.

I have never fished big Sam but will try and give you a little help. I fished yesterday in the Dfw area, water temp was 79-81. Water was very stained and even muddy in some areas,a lot of current in the lake with water being released,I caught a few crappie on the back or calm side of standing timber,20-25 fow 10-12' deep on slab bandits in Texas toast,also caught a few small males shallow on some new laydown and I am talking about 6"-8" deep.bigger females are likely holding deeper and moving up to spawn,I did not find any fish on brush piles like you would expect if they were on a summer pattern.
