I made a ton of these jugs, but I didn't think about how I could easily adjust the depth. I've been setting them in and then pulling up the slack and wrapping around the eyelet to set the depth, but they come off easily. How do ya'll secure the line to adjust the depth? Should I add a cleat to the side of them or another eyelet?

Cheap option- Cable Ties. Make a few loops in line and simply cable tie it.

Depends on how big a range you want. I make my lines 25 foot long and I tie a slip knot in it near the jug that will allow it to fish down to 15 or so feet. Pull the right tag end and it all comes out and back to 25 foot. If your fishing clear water, no trees etc. just let the jug take the slack into the wind.

I'd let them roll out but I have the length out to 30 feet (just in case) and I really want them to hit it and move the weights so I can see if there is anything on them.
Yesterday I had (2) 4-5lb cats on one jug and it was sitting sideways in the water.

I make mine different lengths: 15', 20', and 25'. My neighbor put a small cleat down towards the end of his to wrap the extra line around, and ran the line back through a hole in the pvc. Next time I make some, I think I'll go with his idea.

I have a screw at the bottom of mine that I drilled through the pipe with about a half inch to an inch on either side. I let the line roll out until it hits bottom then unwrap a little more and then secure it to the screw like I would a rope to a boat cleat. I don't have a weight in the pipes though the bottom end is just open. So I have 40 feet of rope on the jugs but I can easily set it to any depth I want with out having to tie it and untie it.

I think all the pvc and noodles are way to complicated and not boyant enough. I use gallon bleach jugs, cheap easy and effective. Plus the lakes I jug are full of timber a 20 lb cat can pull a gallon jug under for a few seconds a few times and he is whooped, same fish could take that noodle jug under and you would never see it again.

Don't use the Orange ones unless you are a commercial fisherman.
From TP&W website: Tagging and Marking Requirements Must be used with a valid GEAR TAG (see Definitions) attached within 6 inches of the free-floating device; gear tag is valid for 10 days after the date set out and must include the number of the permit to sell nongame fish taken from fresh water, if applicable. Properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags.
* For non-commercial purposes, a jugline must be marked with a free-floating device of any color other than orange. * For commercial purposes, a jugline must be marked with an orange, free-floating device.

If you can either quickly or quietly switch out shells, you can bring home almost anything.

I have caught them up to 25 lbs on the small noodles like these and all I fish is a wide open lake, trust me, they can't hold them under any longer than they can a bleach jug. Plus, I can get 10 juglines including weights in a single milk crate and they are all wrapped nice and neat no exposed hooks and never are tangled up. Try that with 10 bleach jugs. Now I use the monster noodle which is twice the size of the little ones. Can only get 8 in a milk crate though. I hate a cluttered up boat plus we are usually only jugging for fun while we go hit a couple of brushpiles for Crappie so The noodle juglines are the only way to go for me. As for the depth adjust, simple half hitch with slip knot is all you need.

I'm with you on this. I run jugs at night and let my jugs float across the lake. Sometimes the gallon jugs are hard to spot even with reflective tape on them. I can't imagine trying to find a small noodle. Yes the jugs are a pain to untangle from time to time. And all my jugs are free aside from hooks and swivels.

If your regular pool noodle with a chunk of pvc with rebar in the middle is as buoyant as a gallon jug you got a new trick to teach me.

To each his own, I'm just telling you that you are wrong saying that a 20 lb cat will take a noodle jug and be gone. I'm not sure whether the gallon jug or the noodle is more bouyant I'm saying the noodle is more than bouyant enough and they are a much neater setup. The op posted a question about how to be able to shorten the lines on the jugs that he made, not anyones opinion on if he made the right kind of jugs or not. Just sayin.

Cheap option- Cable Ties. Make a few loops in line and simply cable tie it. I like this method, this is what I'm going to do for my jugs. I use a zip tie but I put a large snap swivel on it. If you want 4 feet of line just unwrap 4 feet of line then open the snap, run the line in it and then close the snap. That way you can adjust it in seconds to any depth you want.
