Folks, new to the Dallas area and my boat will finally get here in a couple weeks. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Any advice on what lakes to avoid over that weekend? I was thinking of hitting Cedar Creek but a buddy just laughed at me.

Cedar Creek, Texoma, Ray Hubbard, Lewisville, Lavon, and just about anyone that you would put a ski boat in yourself.
Even some of the fishing lakes are crazy that weekend also....

Go to a fishing lake and stay in the timber or stay home like most fisherman.
I hate photobucket.

Ray Roberts up on the north end will get you away from the crowds. It may be cleared up by then, Just watch for the stumps, it has no marked boat lanes. Amon G Carter in Bowie is another good one, launch on the old side, drive thru the Tunnel on the old dam and fish the newer side and you will fall in love with it.

I had the biggest boat wakes I have ever seen come over my boat on Cedar Creek during Memorial Day weekend two years ago. The first set came from a wakeboard boat that must have been at least 500 yards from me. I was fishing shallow water and didn't really pay any attention to him when he went by because he was so far away. I paid attention when I saw three or four massive walls of water coming at me. I rode to the top of the first one but the next couple came over my bow like I had speared giant waves on Toledo Bend in 30 mph winds.
The second time I was fishing a shallow point in Caney Creek. I was sitting down retying when waves/wakes actually came over the side of my boat.
I would avoid Cypress Springs at all costs along with Cedar Creek, Lake Tyler, and any other "recreational" lake. Go to the thickest timber you can find as far back in no wake zones as you can get.

Go to a fishing lake and stay in the timber or stay home like most fisherman. Wish I could disagree, but I can't. I usually use Memorial day weekend for boat/trailer maintenance.

Yeah I usually avoid opening weekend for new & novice boat owners. Can't even think of a lake that I would want to be on.

AKA Amateur weekend. Alas, I will be on cypress springs shaking my head at all the dumb stuff I will see. I know what to expect so it wont bother me much, ill mainly fish early and late when most the recreational boaters are off the lake.

I normally fished in the mornings and evenings back in Ohio over MDW. The recreational boats, wake boats and such could get pretty screwy. We had a narrow reservoir that required you to watch for wake boats or end up on the bank in the rocks. I got more than one scratch from a wake boat that came within 25 yds of me. I've not been fishing since last July and I just don't know if I can not fish with my boat down here.

Yep, I doubt many jet skis will be in Indian.
