Those things look like crud in the water. They're really stiff, don't swim or wobble much.

They work fine on beds, not so much as a lure trying to catch feeding fish.

Keeping in mind that it's not alive, it's not going to work as well as the real thing.

I bought a bunch one time at Fayette for my step son, had always heard they were like candy to the bass there.

After using them for a couple hours with no bites we broke out top water frogs and tore the bass up.

Won't waste money on those again. I just wanted him to catch something on one of his first trips out. My mistake lol.

He caught one a little over five on a frog. That hooked him lol.

There are so many lures I would work on a bed before one of those things.

The nest raiders work just fine... they aren't stiff at all with very thin tails that swim and small appendages and tendrils in a mane around the head that all move sitting still. If I wanted to throw something pre-rigged I use them more than the bluegill swimbaits for bed fishing.

That said, a billion other baits can be used to the same or greater effect. But for a kid or new fisherman who wants something THEY love the realistic look/feel of, it's a fun little bait. I have them and they can catch fish off beds just fine as intended.

Nothing will out fish a texas rigged BigBiteBaits warmouth though... it's one of those baits you bust out with a friend and they go "gimme one of them!" after a few catches. Those and my year round favorite Berkley havoc pit boss are 2 of my favorite to texas rig and pull bass off beds. For less aggressive fish on beds, I have more success with a kriet squirrel tail worm on a shaky head just slowly tapped/dragged onto the bed, or a weightless plastic of your choosing to slowly fall around them in shallow water will [censored] off even the most stoic of bed fish (zoom trick worm for me)

It just depends on the fish and which stage of spawn they are in. I can usually tell by the way they react to the first cast/bait exactly which way I will need to catch them, and even point out which will bite which bait for my girlfriend showing her.

As for actual waterdog fishing... I leave that to the bayou boys chasing big catfish. When we live in Longview the bubbas that ran the river in john boats would set up tons of trot lines with them and swore by them.

Depends on the fish and the fisherman. I rarely use them to catch the fish. I use them to make the female angry or concerned enough to position, and then change it up. I have enough of them in my box, that anyone who fishes with me would know I have confidence in them. I only use them on fish over 7, and I only use the big ones. I think the bigger ones upset the male and that helps get the female on the bed.

they are created for bed fishing... that is why it is named a "nest raider". they don't need a great deal of action, like said previously; waterdogs eat the eggs so i'm guessing bass aren't too fond of them. either way ive never used one, it was just a suggestion to save money.

Those use to be the go-to bait back in the day at Ivie. If you went there you better have had waterdogs. I don't think they do much down there anymore from what I hear.

The internet says that West Side Shamrock in Fayette sells waterdogs, black salties, goldfish and minnows. I have no idea how much they are selling them for.

That store was so rarely open, that I never depended on it. How about the store in Fayetteville?
