Last few weeks I have been kinda struggling getting big fish to take the fly. I have throw most colors and any fly from crazy salt stuff to normal go to stuff. I have been getting lots of sunfish and small bass. The first big one has eluded me. I have hit them on the head, put the fly in their nest, and really pissed them off but not takers.
Today I threw this tiny green fluffy thing that I found to mimic floating moss. This was to a cple grass carp hanging out. They looked but swam away. Suddenly wam nice bass took it. Crazy from that point on it was not bad fishing ( no there is never a bad day fly fishing ) is anyone else finding smaller is the way now or just where I am fishing?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!

I had stated on bedding bass on an earlier post a very small very heavy presentation will often trigger a bite when nothing else will. They get a split decision to eat or not as it falls so fast most times it is engulfed.

The left hand bass in my sig line took a half inch white crappie tube threaded on a circle hook with a pegged 3/8 oz tungsten weight. Some guys saw me on her and said we know what you see there we alternated cast for two hours never got a take I had her in the boat before they passed lol.

Yes, I have been catching bigger bass off a size 10 briminator than I have with Spooks, Jelly worms, large spinner baits, crank baits, etc. lately. I'm not sure if it is just a winter / early spring behavior or not.
Great Article, I have read that before. There is so much conflicting information on this subject. Other articles I have read talk about big bass like big baits because of something to do with how it fits into the mouth/gills/throat of the fish. Factor in water clarity, weather conditions, time of year, etc. It's all still a mystery to me, LOL!! I just know it's much more enjoyable and elbow friendly to throw my size 8 Briminator on a 4 weight than it is to throw a 2/0 rabbit fur crayfish on my 8 weight.

Early in the season, most of the forage would be smaller? It make sense, whether it's true or not, lol.
