There is a 998 in the classified section right now for 1000. NIB.

I don't know a whole lot about current models or prices, but keep an eye out for close-out deals. I picked up my 998c si right after the si HD came out for >$300 off retail (it was the same price as the new HD 7"). I love it, though am still learning how to properly use it. I'm very happy I went with the older larger model instead of a new 798. If you are willing to be patient and maybe take a bit older model, you can get a lot more features/screen size/etc for your budget. Just my

I have a 998 si and love it i wish it was the hd with the back light but it works wondfuly i would buy an other one in a heart beat you can set it to about 50ft scan from right and left it make the picture clear and shows more detail you can pick up fish just laying on the bottom and groops of shad or whites as you can see the size diferance in the fish I mostly catfish and got it set up now and love it i can pick up the cats easily and decently sell all the structure down there well worth the 1000 if you cant fined one use google factor outlet hummin bird that side is really cheap and they sell extend warentys I bought sever fish finders from them I would go with the 999 but if you cant afrod it go with the 998 and if that is out of your price range the the 899 is still a good unite with lost of screen to view good luck
