While helping out at the sale last weekend at APT I got the chance to really get a good look at the BG 2. Lots of storage, big comfy seat, great colors....This had me wondering why you don't see more of these boats out on the water. To slow? To heavy? I had to know what the deal was with this great looking boat. I talked with Rick and left the store with a BG 2 to see what the problem was with this boat. The first thing I noticed while unloading the boat at home was the weight. Honestly not as heavy as I expected just from other reviews I have read. The solid handles to each side of the boat made it no problem for me to handle on my own. In comparison, it is much lighter and easier to handle then my Native mariner. It was easy in and out of the back of the truck but I'm sure it would be a chore to roof top for anyone without much upper body strength. Now to get this boat on the water. I have seen some mixed reviews on the boats speed. Some say it paddles like a barge. Others state that its fast as can be. I expected something in between and that is what I experienced on the water. I will say that of all the other "big boy" kayaks I have paddled, the BG 2 was the better paddler of them all. Oh...and that seat...comparable to all of the others with similar design. I have been in the Native and the new WS seats. They are all very comfortable. With this high of a capacity in a 12' boat, I think it would be difficult to find a better paddler. On my 6 mile paddle yesterday in lots of wind, I was not fatigued at the end of the day and never felt like the wind was a major factor. Continued.......

Ok, we talked speed. Now lets talk stability. You are not going to turtle this kayak unless you are doing something completely ignorant. It is rock solid. The secondary stability is amazing. Standing, no problem. Sitting side saddle, no problem. I was really surprised to see this combination of speed and stability. This is going to be a great boat fishing the marshes and back lakes during LSKS in Galveston this year. This kayak is loaded with features as well. It has six mounting plates, three to each side, so that you never have to drill a hole in your boat. The pouch on the back of the seat is large enough to hold a jacket, your lunch or anything else you want to keep near you and some what dry. The center hatch is molded to accept your rod holders, camera mounts or anything else you would typically need a base for. There is also a specially designed scupper for your transducer although I doubt I will ever put electronics on this boat. The click seal hatch is super easy to get in to and seems that it will keep things dry inside. As many things as this boat offers, I am sure I am missing a few. In short, this is the best combination of speed and stability I have paddled in a 12' kayak. I am still not sure why they are not more popular. If you want to get one on the water, feel free to contact any of the APT pro staff, Rick or Patti in the store or of course myself. I would be happy to spend some time on the water with you to see what the BG 2 can offer you.

Great review, I've paddled my Big Game going on 9 years and still don't have a complaint. It is a good BTB boat and great inshore boat. This new version is tempting me to do a trade in.

I will be down your way several times this summer. Let me know if you want to get together to compare the two...

Great review and very accurate. I had to do a double take since I have the exact same boat. Color scheme and everything. The transducer scupper hole was not large enough for my Elite 5 transducer so I had to use an arm over the side. With the mod boards I still didn't have to drill any holes. I also like the battery bag inside the hull that keeps your battery up off the hull of the yak and it doesn't slide. Older OK models have a plate but it's not remove able like the bag is.
Great all around boat.

Great review!
I don't think Angler's puts any kayaks on its floor that aren't really good vessels. Floor space is too valuable.
This kayak has so many great attributes for a paddler. Lots and lots of possible applications.
Good looking, too!
