Yesterday In two hours I caught 17 Crappie and all were under 6" long. Today I caught 24 and three were over 14 " and the rest were 5" or less. Where are all the 9"-11" fish. No one around our marina is catching them. This doesn't make sense to me. It's been this way for weeks now.

I have had the same problem at my slip on Grapevine too. All winter we have either caught 3-6 inch dinks or 11-14 inch fish. Nothing at all in between. I haven't even needed to bring a measurer with me.

Been catching some pigs on my slip. Very few dinks and if you lift your jig to slow to move to another location, you will catch a shad almost every time. Big shad!

don't know for sure but maybe there was a poor spawn 2 years ago ? the tpw website says they run in cycles sounds like you are missing an age class in there to me

Well at least you are catching some Crappie. I can't catch a Crappie, or a Sand Bass, or a Shad in Lewisville. I filled a 5 gallon bucket with water and set it on my back patio. I have been sitting on the patio and fishing in that bucket with the same results as Lake Lewisville, and I don't have to pay the $10 Launch Fee.

Ketchn, that makes sense. 2 yrs ago we had a 7 inch rain in march that wiped out most of the spawn. Brought the lakes up alot. Weatherford went front 6 ft low to full. Bet that's the reason.
I dont fish for a living but i LIVE TO FISH!

and the other scenario I read about told of a super spawn one year and that spawn at one year old ate up the next spawn the following year ... I for one am sure it isn't fishing pressure on a lake the size of Lewisville ketchn lots of legal size fish out of a smaller lake might cause it but that isn't going to be the case on larger water bodies for sure

I don't think they have much to eat under there. The shad didn't spawn last spring from what I have been told. I really have no idea, but we are experiencing the same thing.

I concur but cannot comment on the 16" fish. Went out to the Sneaky Pete Slips and caught a few 6" fish and that was it. Sure hope it gets better or I'll be fishing in Dutch's bucket as well.

I'm having the same results so I just go down the road now and save the gas and launch fee. Sure hope this coming spawn is noticeable.

In 2015 the state is surveying Lew if I am not mistaken. I'll have to remember to try to hunt down that report and see if they get similar results. If only the lake would come up a few feet this spring it would help in the long run.
