Might buy a F-150 soon. Was wondering about the V6 Ecoboost and the V8 5.0 engines.

Anyone have opinions for one over the other.

I have had a 2014 5.0 since sept. I really like the motor. Mine is a 4x4. More than enough power when needed. I get about 16 overall avg. 18-19 on highway going 75. Towing is plenty of power but mileage is about 11 or 12...but I havent pulled much distance on highway at one time.

I hear ecoboost is great also. I really like the truck overall. If it holds up over five or six years, I will be a ford man for a while!

I bought a 4x4 ecoboost last year and it has been great so far. It pulls my 20 foot champion amazingly well and gets about 10-12 towing.

I have a 2012 3.5 4x4 that I have had for 25 months. Been an absolutely great truck. I have 74,000 miles on it and it pulls my boat better than my 7.3 diesel did I had prior.

I've been think about an F150 as well. I asked the Service Manager which he would buy....ecoboost or 5.0. He said 5.0. I'm currently in a 7.3 diesel.

We have a 5.0 at work and its a good motor too. MPG is about the same the only thing the 3.5 is better at is pulling.

Really are about a push, but as much as I pull my boat and other stuff, I am more than happy with the 3.5.

I do wished my old 7.3 was still around, but after 420,000 miles it was time to put it to pasture.

I've still got my 7.3 with 120,000. But I'll sell it soon because I have 3 vehicles now.

Thanks everyone...bought the '14 F-150 with ecoboost RWD this afternoon.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

What ever you guys buy will now come with vct which works off oil pressure. What we see most of in Fords is timing chain rattle - low oil pressure and engine replacement due to lack of oil changes. I tell all my Ford customers to use synthetic blend oil and change it and the filter every 3500 miles. This will stop all the crud from building up in the engine and screwing with all the variable cam timing garb. Stay away from paraffin based oils - they collect grime on the inside of the motor and is the main cause of sludge build-up. All blends are not created equal - read the % of synthetic properties in your oil - some are 20% some are 30% . BG is what we use - it is almost 50% synthetic - much better than oils you can buy off the shelf. I have it in bulk - 4.50 a quart.

Jesus first - then the rest will fall into place.

In my opinion there is little if any reason to use something other than Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic. It is the manufacturers oil, meets all required specs, and at wally world is cheaper than you can get anything else.

I haven't used any wal mart (supertech) brand motor oil, but I have been using their ATF in my beater car for over 100k miles and it has worked great and that transmission needed love before I started driving it.

Here is a test where some conventional oils like Pennzoil outperformed some synthetics.
