Both? Have your cake and eat it too with a single 2 seater console! Wonder why the layout never caught on... I quite fancy it. Better fore-aft movement through boat in general... more conventional layout to a car (in USA anyways) and inboard seating positions offer less spray in bigger water... not saying Bayliner had it 100% perfect or anything but conceptually it's awesome, and their version works well enough. I'd love to see a new version of this with better deck usage. Like running tubes from the steps forward through front deck for rods would be really nice... You could have very long rod boxes to each side without impacting usable deck space or leg room because you both sit right in the middle... a 20ft version of this layout would have amazing ergonomics I think.

To me dual gets in the way when fishing. If you are getting a new boat and it is a touchy subject look into the boats that have a removable passenger console.

Short boat - single. Long boat - dual.

I have the extra console but I have not put it in the boat yet much to my wife's chagrin, however if my fishing partner were to ask for a second console I'd simply tell him to buy his own boat!! Much more room with a single console.

Seriously though, why does this layout not exist other than this boat? a 20ft+ version of this would be incredibly awesome. Allison XB2002 is closest I can think to something with a similar layout but not nearly as spaciously laid out cockpit as this, and a smaller narrow boat.

I have had both so these are my observations. Single fishes much easier dual is great for the partner if you are just fishing the weekends with friends and family dual. If you are fishing tournaments single, most of the time you are drawing a co- angler and who cares if he is warm or dry that's what they make the type of rain suits we have available and warm weather gear. And before anyone goes on rant I have fished as a co- angler in some of the worst weather try falcon in the FLW when the weather was 19-20F and the wind was blowing 40. I wasn't cold just dressed for the occasion.

However I find myself currently debating this subject as I am looking at a new Z521. wish all the manufacturers would make them removable. This way we could have the best of both worlds and this post wouldn't even be a topic for discussion.

I just lost 30 seconds of my life I can't back!!!

Like a single but run a double - love fishing with my wife.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I think it was Skeeter that had a larger center console bass boat years ago. Three across seating with a driver console in the center. As far as driving comfort it was still just a single console. To me it's always been a simple decision: a dual console is more comfortable for driving and a single is more fishable. I fish 95% of the time and ride 5% of the time. Single console for me. (Wife usually is with me only when weather is nice!)

I have had both. Have a dual not and think it's just about getting use to it. If you fish with a partner its better to have one. Fish alone then single.

My Triton has a removable pass side console - pretty neat.

I will look into Nitro/Skeeter having similar versions, but a 3 across seat setup would be moronic... even more moronic than it is on any bass boat.. The best part of the center console is side by side seating for 2 with your own walkways to front/rear of boat. On a single or dual console they do 3 across because, well why not, the seats have to reach all the way over there anyways! I would think a middle console for 2 would save on weight/materials a bit as well. And have 100% of the benefits of both single and dual console, while actually providing better wind/water protection, and longer rod boxes on both sides of the bow. I would love to see the engineering that goes into a modern 20ft+ bass rig with smartly layed out storage go into this type of floor plan.

edit: I see nitro has the Z9 CDC (center dual console) which is interesting and somewhat similar and modernized. Thank you for sharing that info with me.

I had to look up that CDC and I would have to say that if I could have seen one up close I might have given it some thought. Would have really given some thought to Z-8 in the CDC package.
